Focuse closer ties between China and Sri Lanka, particularly in economic cooperation and intellectual exchange

The Pathfinder Foundation welcomed a delegation from the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and had a significant discussion to strengthen bilateral relations and understand perspectives on various global issues. The meeting held at the Pathfinder Foundation’s headquarters was part of a broader tour undertaken by the CPC delegation, which included visits to several countries.

The delegation from the CPC was led by Su Zuhui, Deputy Director General of the Research Office, along with several delegates. Their two-day visit to Sri Lanka was aimed at gaining a comprehensive understanding of Sri Lanka’s economic and political landscape and exploring Sri Lanka’s perspectives on China.

Milinda Moragoda, founder of Pathfinder Foundation and his team took part in the discussion. The focal points of the discussion included the current situation in the global south, economic and trade scenarios, progress of BRICS from Sri Lanka’s perspective, and opportunities for collaboration between think tanks and academic institutions of the two countries.

The discussion underscored the importance of fostering closer ties between China and Sri Lanka, particularly in economic cooperation and intellectual exchange. The visiting delegates highlighted the potential for enhanced trade relations and mutual support within the framework of BRICS, membership of which Sri Lanka has expressed interest.

Pathfinder Foundation emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address global challenges and leverage development opportunities. Both sides expressed commitment to deepening their partnership and working towards common goals that benefit the global south.

The visit marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between China and Sri Lanka, with both countries looking forward to fruitful cooperation. Pathfinder team shared with the visitors several publications translated by the Foundation and handed over the progress report of the China-Sri Lanka Cooperation Studies Centre of the Foundation.
