Dr Sarath Obeysekera
Your Excellency,
I would like to share my observations regarding the pressing need for advanced vocational training in Sri Lanka, particularly in the field of welding and related engineering disciplines.
As the founder of an advanced welding school, I have recognized a significant demand for skilled workers, especially among our youth seeking employment opportunities abroad. In the process of establishing this institution, I have been developing comprehensive course content that integrates both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring that our students are well-equipped to meet international standards.
Key Points of Focus:
1. Comprehensive Curriculum:
The curriculum at our welding school is designed to provide in-depth knowledge, combining theoretical foundations with hands-on training. This dual approach is essential for preparing students to excel not only in local industries but also in international job markets.
2. Targeting Engineering Graduates:
Many engineering graduates from Sri Lankan universities and private technical colleges affiliated with foreign institutions possess a wealth of knowledge. However, they often lack the specific practical skills required for specialized fields such as welding. Our training program aims to bridge this gap, enhancing their employability.
3. Industry-Relevant Training:
We are committed to ensuring that our training aligns with the latest industry standards and technologies. This will not only improve the skills of our workforce but also attract foreign investments, as companies seek qualified professionals who can contribute to their operations.
4. Collaboration with Foreign Institutions:
By establishing partnerships with foreign technical institutes, we can introduce international best practices and advanced technologies into our training programs. This collaboration will further enhance the skill set of our graduates.
5. Focus on Job Creation:
Our ultimate goal is to empower the youth of Sri Lanka with the skills needed to secure employment, both locally and abroad. By equipping them with advanced welding skills, we aim to contribute to the country’s economic growth and help reduce unemployment rates.
In conclusion, by investing in advanced vocational training and fostering collaboration between educational institutions and industries, we can create a skilled workforce capable of meeting both local and global demands. I urge you to support initiatives that enhance vocational training and promote the development of specialized skills among our youth.
Thank you for considering these observations. I look forward to your support in advancing this important initiative.
