Unhappy about photos on Ukraine war and South China Sea
The Russian and Chinese Embassies in Colombo have taken exception to some photographs exhibited at the World Press Photo exhibition now open at the Independence Arcade in Colombo. The complaint from Russia relates to photographs of the Ukraine war while China’s objection is over some photos relating to the South China Sea.
The Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) CEO Kumar Lopez said they were the local partner organizing the exhibition which was funded by the Netherlands Embassy. They had no role in selecting the photographs on display. The World Press Photo Foundation is the main body owning the exhibition.
None of the photographs complained against have been taken down.
The exhibition which opened on Jan. 10 at the Independence Arcade will continue till Jan. 20 and then travel to Jaffna (Jan. 24-27) and Galle (Jan. 31 to Feb. 2) before returning to Colombo for display from Feb. 8 – 10 at The Forum, Cinnamon Life Hotel.
