Vaishnaw: India rail fares far less than Sri Lanka, Pak, Bangladesh

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Tuesday that rail fares in India are lower as compared to neighbouring countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Replying to the discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Demands for Grants under the control of the Ministry of Railways for 2025-26, Vaishnaw said, If we compare with neighbouring countries, our fares are very less. For a 350-km journey, the fare in India is Rs 121, in Pakistan it is Rs 436, in Bangladesh it is Rs 323 and in Sri Lanka it is Rs 413.”

He said railway accidents have come down by 90% in the last 20 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focused on railway safety and has brought in new technology and investment, reducing railway accidents, he said.
