Sri Lanka Police has developed an application to monitor vehicles at fuel stations, in an attempt to prevent cars from pumping more fuel than the quota issued.
Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera revealed that the app was currently being tested in several fuel stations across the country, explaining that once the number plate details of consumers are entered, the data is shared real time with other users.
The app will then notify if the same vehicle has pumped fuel on the same day from any other station, and the history of refueling of the vehicle. I thank the IGP and the Police IT Dept.
Earlier this week, following the fuel price hike, both the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC) revised the caps issued for the distribution of fuel.
