Not sure why this was posted in Lanka Web and the intention of the person who wrote the introduction. My opinion is as follows.
1. Harassing women has worsened in Sri Lanka lately. Men should be taught how to respect women in schools, not only in Dhamma schools. Nowadays even a 40+ year old woman has to struggle to travel in a bus. This harrasment MUST be stopped by education as well as harsher punishment to offenders.
2. This woman, who is assaulting a man ( even if there is a valid reason to get angry) should be imemdiately arrested by the police and necessary action shall be taken against her. This is simply thugghery at its best. Whatever the political, police or better connections rellated power abuse should come to an end.

A very good example of deterioration of Sinhala Buddhist value system is clearly visible in the video. Both the harrasment of women ( regardless of what she is wearing) , the thuggery , lack of moral fear and moral shame are not so evident in western world even though they are the ones who destroyed our culture. Our leaders have to sacrifice thier greed and do something for the land and Sinhala culture. When will see that day ?
Like to see more comments on this.

Hello Nanda, Excuse me who did tell you this girl is Sinhala Budhist? On what basis do you criticize Sinhala Budhist Culture relating to this incidence? In real Sinhala Budhist culture there is no violation.
However, We accept that Sri Lankan culture that consist of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim in general has already deteriorated.
The politicians from all three categories have to get together as Sri Lankans, as one nation and find solutions for this social issues rather than pointing fingers one to the other and roll the blame to the other side

I read some comments and other news items elsewhere. The girl is village girl and the man is Tamil. I seldom see Tamil girls in towns, but Tamil men passing remarks @ Sinhala girls.

This dirty and rowdy looking man is a Tamil Nadu illegal immigrant by the name Selvam. If authorities had not allowed illegal immigrants in the island, this would not have happened.
He had passes sexiest comments to girls. But he suffered no injury or anything of note. Just a few light slaps from a small build woman.

Nationality of the boy is immaterial here. He has got a Sinhala name but Tamil nick name. Besides that this girl has no right to assault this boy like the way she did. It is a criminal act. When someone dressed in leggings and appeared in a remote bus station like at Wariyapola, you are bound to get some remarks like what he did, not only from young lads but also from some elderly people as well. Even in London when they wear leggings, they always make sure they cover their buttocks properly with the top garment. Problem here in Sri Lanka is that the young girls from middle class families are trying to became more westernised than the westerners themselves. Look at that girls in the vedio, her top garment is also too short and can easily draw some adverse comments and that is quite natural in a Buddhist country like in Sri Lanka.

Even women who cover their full body (Islamic dress) get booed at (even touched) in SL.
It is not the fault of women that some sick people make sexist comments about them. When I went to Sigiriya some dirty people started hooting and passing sick comments when they saw the paintings.
Strangely few would hoot at half naked (or worse) tourists.

Dr. Kuram Mansoor,
Sri Lanka’s culture is called “Sinhala-Buddhists”, not Muslim ( which you see in Saudi) and not Tamil ( which you see in Tamil Nadu). Racial identities of people has nothing to do with the culture, the all have to blend into the culture of the country, not try to change it to suit their aspirated foreign country.

“It is not the fault of women that some sick people make sexist comments about them.”
Very true. But following of “colombo” culture and the nude, sex oriented western culture by wearing half naked clothes to attract opposite sex when they are unable to get attention is not the Sinhala culture too. However, as we see in the video, I don’t believe this woman is dressed that bad and the Man did not make adverse comments ( if we believe him).
Whether the man is Kallathoni or not, this time it is this woman who should be charged, because it is her fault of assaulting another. How on this earth that the police charged the man ? I don’t believe it.
It further confirms “deterioration of Sinhala Buddhist value system “.

I think the man was polite and protective towards this woman as if he was an elder brother to her. The woman seems to have over-reacted as her ego and show off nature has been demolished by this lone and humble Mr No-Body. She has let go of her inhibitions and pounced on the man, and when he did not react, continued to provoke him to a trap; then she could also have taken the public along with her.
We all know well, attackers like this woman thrive on someone responding to their thuggish behavior. If no response, then they get even madder, as the events proved to be the case here. If she attacked a real troublemaker at the bus station, she would have got a knife through her rib cage. Just think that she was lucky to be let off. Personally, I think she should be arrested and prosecuted for assault, if Sri Lankan Police is worth their salt, or name.
About the man. He was silly not to be streetwise and keep his mouth shut, because in SLk everyone moves around with hyper tension and waiting for someone else to cross their path to let off their steam. It is much better to mind one’s business and not try to advise others or correct them. Remember what happens to even teachers when they try to correct the off springs of terrible political ogres. In SLK, the era of guidance by well meaning adults and strangers has long passed. Now it is the era of cut and thrust ending up in bloodshed.
That said, I take my hat off for this man, who remained calm and tolerant under extreme provocation and abuse by this woman. Above all, he kept his mind alert, realizing that if he reacted, the entire public there would have turned against him, and taken the side of this thuggish woman. 10/10 for you brother citizen.
About comments here regarding his origin. It is totally wrong to make such accusations about where this man come from. The fact was he was living amongst Sinhala people, in a predominantly Sinhala area. He seems to live there, looking after his daughter through his meagre earnings and humble work, unlike a lot of our own kind strong people including central and local goverment politicos that live on immoral earnings and graft. It does not matter what ethnic group this poor man belongs to, he is a citizen of our country. He deserves protection as he has shown immense courage and tolerance in sticking to the teachings of Buddha under extreme pressure.
Mindful that Sinhala people are being hounded from pillar to post by foreigners regarding human rights and the alleged way they treat minorities, this incident and videos could be used by enemies to prove their point that Sinhala people are extremely ruthless, unruly and that they initimidate and attack innocent minorities whenever they feel like it. I am ashamed to see this woman (presumably a Sinhalese by her name) dishing out this kind of summary punishment of her own to a minority citizen who in his situation could not defend himself.

I am proud of this girl. We see these people who talk about Sinhala Culture and has no idea of our culture. Please read about the Sinhala culture if you don’t know about it. It is not Indian Hindu culture or Tamil Hindu culture. unfortunately since the ascendancy of SWRD Bandaranaike he got rid of Sinhala culture and replaced it with Tamil Hindu culture. Got rid of school books like Salalihini Sandesaya. What one wears or not wearing is not some one else’s problem. This guy should be prosecuted for pinching bum of this lass. But then soon this guy will be will be in a Western country claiming asylum. He is living among the Sinhalese but how many Sinhalese are allowed to live among the Tamils? It is time to realize the Indian colonialism and imperialism that is destroying the Sinhalese and the Sinhala culture. It is not India where women are treated like cows.

There was a time and a saying in Ceylon that “a naked woman could travel from Devundara to Point Pedro (Peduruthuduwa) without being harassed but looked after”. That was our culture
. This lass was right in taking the law to her hands.

“This lass was right in taking the law to her hands”
LTTE is also right , taking the law to their hands ?
Write or wrong, now she is confined to home, as media tells us. She has cooked up a story now that the man has “touched” her bottom ( which appears to be not the reason she slapped him). However our friend Christ has “pinched” instead of touched.

“the dress habits of a Sinhalese girl from a village ” – LOL
Did you see the original video to determine this ?
Dress of sinhalese girls from village is රෙද්ද් හැට්ටේ.
I am proud of this man, not for his comment to the woman but for his behaviour afterwards, regardless of his race.
