UPFA ex-parliamentarian A. H. M. Azwer yesterday said UNP MP cum Justice Minister should immediately renounce his ministerial portfolio as he had challenged the authority of the Speaker and Parliament by saying that the present government would not take any action on the no-confidence motion signed by 112 parliamentarians against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
MP Wijayadasa Rajapakshe has said, “The Opposition’s motion would not be taken up for Parliamentary debate since the UNP based government was authorised to decide whether to take action on it or not.”
Azwer said that the Speaker had to decide in consultation with the party leaders whether to go ahead with the no confidence motion against Wickremesinghe or not and even Speaker was not empowered by the Constitution to make a decision without consulting the party leaders.
