Dear Editor,
This editorial reflects a poor and only a superficial understanding of issues pertaining to Sri Lanka. The worst give away of this is the assumption that 40,000 were killed in the last weeks of the war. These are mere allegations initiated within days of the ending of the war by the international Tiger Diaspora whose main claim to fame is their capacity to misinform. Unfortunately , the UNSG appointed Darusman commission, appointed against the express wishes of some UNSC members, consisting of three members with well known axes to grind against Sri Lanka for a variety of reasons, gave respectability to this allegation by suggesting that these are credible allegations, based on evidence from the sources that would remain anonymous for two decades. So much for the credibility and transparency of these allegations.
The ‘Missing persons commission” chaired by retired Sri Lanka high court judge Paranagama following extensive sittings including many in the north and east of the country in it’s report made public in September 2015 has reliably concluded that the war casualties in the period referred to was far less than 40,000 and more in the order of 7000.

The NYT Editorial Board does not seem to know how to spell “Sinhalese”….the insertion of the “g”
indicates from where this Editorial must have received tutoring!!
NO FURTHER COMMENT NECESSARY….
