   Charles,

   GOOD RESPONSE. Gonsal is anti-MR, and nothing we say will satisfy him. In your articles you cogently present your case, any anyone can see you have already answered Gonsal’s question. Yet, he asks the same thing as if there is something magical in chanting the same mantra.

   All the love and gratitude we express towards MR for what he had done for our country, drives Gonsal mad. There is no cure for that disease.

   Going by the large public support, people prefer a government where Udaya and Wimal play a bigger role than Basil, Namal and even Gotabhaya. They want Mahinda but not his relatives (except Gotabhaya). They want tough action against ETCA, Vigneswaran, Indians, 13A and conversions. Charisma and family loyalty are long dead awaiting burial.

   JVP will double its votes percentage at the next election thanks to their excellent work in parliament recently whereas the two JO leaders have been silent within parliament. JO has a better chance of winning young voters if led by Wimal and Udaya than Mahinda and Dinesh. No party led by a Rajapaksa can elect a Tamil or Muslim MP.

   I also predict a party led by war heroes to win at least 4% of the vote and another patriotic party (bold enough to call Vigneswaran a racist) to win a seat or two. A trade union led party against ETCA (clear promise of abrogation of ETCA) can also win seats.

   This fragmentation of the Opposition is due to lack of leadership showed by TNA, JVP and JO (the 3 largest opposition groups) in taking up people’s grievances in priority over nepotism, FCID, etc.

   MR is the best President Lanka has had since Independence from Britain in 1948.
   Apart from removing the LTTE, the scourge that swept across Lanka for nearly 30 yrs killing and maiming Lanka citizens and destroying property running to billions and loss of reputation to Lanka, MR is the person who got development going on a large scale on a sound footing. Even the UN applauded MR’s efforts to remove the LTTE (2010), but later changed due to mostly the ‘Contain China’ program.
   Much earlier, MR is the one person who went to Geneva to plead for the misunderstood and maligned JVP – he understood the problems faced by the rural Sinhala youth (Unemployment, in the first round of protests), and later the protests over the illegal 13-A imposed by India on the JRJ govt.
   We did not know any of this and thought the JVP was cut down only due to violence & communism (Cold War times).

   Why weren’t talks held by then govts without killing off the Sinhala rural youth and others …. ?

   In those times, ONLY MR stood up for Lanka’s rural youth !

   I think most Sinhala voters today (especially the under 40s) think like Gonsal. This may be very annoying to some older generations that value consistency, loyalty and other good values of the past generation. Today’s under 40s value change, hate nepotism and embrace globalisation. It is easy to brush them aside as naïve or ungrateful but that comes with inevitable election defeat. The JO must take these into account if they are to win most votes.

   What I often hear is blaming Sinhala voters as ungrateful, foolish and unpatriotic when they don’t vote for certain politicians in large numbers. Gratefulness (positive correlation) is a double edged sword. If grateful people see relative ungratefulness from politicians, they turn against them. It is still gratefulness that manifests in a different way.

   It is the same Lanka rural Youth who joined the Armed Forces of Lanka to rout out the LTTE.

   We hope true born Lankans never forget that and will now forge a permanent friendship with the rural people, never to be broken by the ‘divide & rule’ people who have ruined Lanka.

   We can now identify who cares for Lanka and who does not ….
   Remove from power those who do not care for Lanka – that is how true Democracy works.

   Make it so !

   Charles and I are not talking about loyalty to some arbitrary FAMILY because they have done us some great PERSONAL FAVORS/ Instead this is SELFLESS LOYALTY to another, a great man, who has stood up and protected Sri Lanka and its people that we care about. That is the ONLY BASIS for the loyalty and gratitude Charles and I are calling for.

   The day when such LOYALTY and GRATITUDE are declared DEAD and EXTINCT, that is the day we can kiss the human species GOODBYE, for there is will be NO ENDURING BASIS for one human being to help another.

   Without sucgh a basis each human being will be ALL ALONE in this world. It would be as if they were mass produced from test tubes in batches of a million to serve some unfeeling, unthinking, impersonal robotic society. Then there will be no reason each human to live, to motivate them to exist, for everything we do as human beings is because there is something, someone, somewhere we care about in this world.

   That LOYALTY and that GRATITUDE is a manifestation of LOVE, for LOVE cannot exist in a vacuum devoid of an emotional return to the lover. It is LOVE that drives people like MR to sacrifice themselves for others, and I for one would not want to live in a world without LOVE sustained by LOYALTY and GRATITUDE.

    I would have thought “All the indifference towards our dead brothers and sisters who actually had done for our country, drives Gonsal mad. ” more suited to me than that statement. If there is any madness seen toward ANY individual ( including MR) is exactly due to that.

    No one is capable is reading my heart and mind. Please respect it for a second.

    There exist some people who could be 50 plus AND seen real victims of war ? They are even writing here but no one dare to even comment.

    That is an extreme position where loyalty are gratitude and dead. That will not happen.

    Instead people moderate their election value of loyalty and gratitude. People did give the credit for winning the war – 58% in 2010 for Mahinda and 66% for his party the same year. Basil and Namal won the highest number of preference votes in their districts. All but 1 PC election wins and most LG election wins. Over 47% at the 2015 election (highest by the loser) and highest in preference votes in Kurunegala and Hambantota. Given that politicians are supposed to be servants of the people, I think that’s adequate for now (unless he promises saving the nation from 13A and/or cancel ETCA).

    Most Buddhists following some sort of middle path find Sirisena type of never ending loyalty and gratitude towards Ranil unacceptable.

    Who owns Marriot Hotel in Dubai and Steel Mill at Oruwela?. I have not seen Dubai hotel but worked in my young days at Oruwela as an undergraduate trainee, when Russians were building it. These cases are also like Bond Scam. All Sri Lankans know who got them, but cannot prove.
    If Sinhalas are divided like this and insult each other RW will be the the PM for the rest of his life and almost certainly SL will be taken over by the Indians one way or the other.

    Actually it is very easy to reconcile with each other( for Sinhalese) and kick out UNP forever.
    Only obstacle is UNCONDITIONAL blind LOVE when everybody at least “suspect” the TRUTH.
    But to those who have access to some FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE , it is impossible to forgive those culprits who had NO LOVE FOR THE COUNTRY. Powerful can ACT to be innocent and WILL REMAIN legally innocent in our country.
    At your death, you regret, when you have no strength to stab yourself.

    Dear Ananda,

    It is because of our Buddhist culture that we see the Sinhala Buddhists as a Nation gradually falling into the category of endangered species. We are not extremists. We readily pardon others their wrongs and excesses. We try to be fair and just. We accept insults, mental and physical injuries or even massacres, and carry no grudge. We hate to impose ourselves or our authority on others. When others tell of our elders that they are, thieves, liars, and wretched manipulators , we accept with a smile, even if know in our heart of heart that they are not such a bad lot. We give credit to others and readily excuse their errors, but blame our own for hurting the feelings of others.

    So here we are….even if we try to say some thing close to our heart, others come forward to blame us and say that we are wrong because they are wiser, better informed and know more.

    Yes, Ranil Wickramasinghe must resign immediately. This is the honourable thing to do. The country should be run by a PM who holds the confidence of most people. This is very important. Someone else who holds the confidence of the people should be appointed the PM by President Sirisena. Besides, Arjunan Mahendran did say the PM, meaning Ranil, asked him to do it. Therefore he should resign immediately which is the honourable thing to do and let any investigations take place without any interference. In other countries, this is what happens after this type of incident. So it is not at all unique.
