Former UNP MP indicted

The Attorney General has indicted former UNP MP Myown Mustapha before the Colombo High Court for offering a bribe to former JNP MP Mohomed Muzzamil to obtain his support and to ensure General Sarath Fonseka’s victory during the Presidential Election, which held on January 26.
The Attorney General’s Department has filed the case in the High Court.of Colombo and has obtained the approval from the High Court Judge Deepani Wijesundera to fix a date for a trial on a future date.
According to the case, Mustapha offered Rs 4.2 million to Muzzamil to change his political stance to get his support and promote to ensure General Sarath Fonseka’s victory at the Presidential Election. The Attorney General has filed the case under Section 70 (C) to-gather with 80 (1) (a) of the 1981 No 15 of the Presidential Election Act to indict the former MP .
The Attorney General has cited 21 witnesses and expected to produce several items including a tape recorder, one CD, detailed bill, traveling bag and Rs 4.2 million of cash before the High Court in support of the case.
