TSUNAMI FUNDS - BANKS RESPONSIBILITY

Prof. Hudson McLean

The banking sector in Sri Lanka should accept the responsibility to maintain vigilance against sudden large scale deposits fattening any bank account.

Like in EU, unwritten banking laws require a comprehensive background checks to verify large scale transfers and deposits to control money laundering and drug traffickers.

Any such activity should be voluntarily passed on to the relevant authorities for investigation, ignoring the Banking Secrecy understandings. Violators should be subjected to legal remedies with heavy imprisonment and hard labour in Tsunami re-building programmes.

The Tsunami funds are exclusively for the victims and it should be so.
