Let the Army do its work. Priests and Politicians
keep away.
JVP Please keep Trade Unions in Chain.
UNP-should take a vacation.
By Charles Perera
The army should be vigilant, mindfully aware of every thing they do
to avoid repetition of the likes of the claymore bomb that killed 19
soldiers in a bus. That was a loss of life through negligence. The terrorists
are every where all the time, day as well as in the night. They the
terrorists could afford to make mistakes but we cannot. Therefore, the
army should be doubly careful, specially when it is a vehicle that carries
a number of soldiers. The soldiers should look not only in front of
them when advancing, but left, right and behind.
Let the Army do their job
The army should be free, unencumbered with other responsibilities,
to do their work. Their work is difficult and risky. They have to take
their own time according to appropriate plans and schedules. Therefore,
the priests, politicians, media reporters should not interfere with
their work, neither precipitate their work, nor advice them how to carry
out their work.
Strikes by Trade Unions. JVP should not do, a Brutus.
We are at a crossroad of our history, and every man and woman in what
ever situation, should be aware of this, and help in what ever way they
can for the Government to first solve the terrorist problem the country
is facing. In France when Mr; Francois Mitterand formed his Socialist
Government, the Trade Unions were very careful not to make it difficult
for him to govern, with strikes and trade union demands to distract
his attention from other important tasks.
We have a Socialist President. The problems he is faced with are varied
and difficult, and it is our duty to understand that situation and help
him to settle them each at its own time. We should therefore, as citizens
understand what takes priority over others, and know that this is not
the time for Trade Union action demanding higher wages, removal of Chairmen,
or change the administrative systems.
Hence, the statement made by K.D.Lal Kanthe of JVP: If the government
suppresses trade unions, their support would never be given to the Government.,
is irresponsible and unacceptable. The political parties, who say, that
they were responsible for Mr. M.Rajapakse to come into power, are not
now going to topple the apple cart. It is better that Messrs.Lal Kanthe,
Amerasinghe and others know, that if the President fails to put things
right, it will be UNP who will come back in to power, not JVP, JHU or
SLFP.
UNP should take a vacation from Politics.
UNP with Ranil at its head had done enough damage to Sri Lanka. The
best thing they could do now is to shut their mouths and
wait until the Government and the Army, do what they can to dive away
the terrorist menace from our midst.
In any case Ranil Wickramasinghe, will not be back in politics, after
the way he had been behaving in the past. People are getting tired of
him and his cohorts. If he wants to be a future alternative to the present
President, Ranil should keep silent or openly help the President and
his government at this most difficult time.
