LTTE & Humanitarianism- "We Closed Mavil Aru to Protest EU Ban-LTTE"

By Darmitha-Kotte

CFAs and Geneva Conventions have no meaning for murderous LTTE terrorists, let us not try to white-wash their "totally humanitarian agendas" of torturing, murdering and the cruel destruction to human lives irrespective of whether they were friend or foe. Decency is of no use to them. "Live and let live" is good for us but not for them. "Peace is the only way" is chanted to the south by pro-terrorist NGOs, western governments & the SLMM while " See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil" motto of the 3 monkeys, is used for LTTE terrorist atrocities.

What a lot of fuss, security and SLMM patronage was given for Daya Master with the fake "cardiac arrest" while 15,000 people and 30,000 acres of paddy land are deprived of water when LTTE closed the water supply for 10 days from the Mawilaru anicut to the Seruwila, Muttur and Ichalampattu areas of the Trincomalee District. The excuse given by the new LTTE spokesman Illanchelian as per news items which appeared in " The Island " of 31st July,2006 is : " We closed the Mawilaru anicut to show our disapproval of the European Ban," Quite rightly, The EU banned the LTTE as " a Terrorist Organization" because of the brutal & inhumane atrocities committed by them against innocent civilians and Service Personnel continuously. What atrocities have the civilians and poor farming villagers of Seruwila, Muttur and Ichalampattu done against humanity? According to the same report in "The Island" it is stated: "About 15,000 families, who depend on the water from the canal are deprived of even water for domestic use, while 30,000 acres of paddy in the area are also threatened with destruction, official sources in the district said ."

As per news item which appeared in "Daily Mirror" of 27th July,2006 it is stated that "Minister Rambukwella accused the LTTE of violating the Geneva Accord and committing war crimes by blocking water to civilians and added that President Mahinda Rajapakse was taking up the matter internationally, even at UN level owing to the gravity of the situation. "

The article further states " Under Protocol 1 to the Geneva Convention it is prohibited to attack, destroy, remove or render useless objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, such as foodstuffs, agricultural areas for the production of foodstuffs, crops, livestock, drinking water installations and supplies and irrigation works, for the specific purpose of denying them for their sustenance valued to the civilian population or to the adverse party, whatever the motive, whether in order to starve our civilians, to cause them to move away, or for any other motive. "

Under the circumstances, can the LTTE justify their actions on the grounds that they were protesting against The EU ban?! Having thus violated Protocol 1 of The Geneva Convention - what punishment will the LTTE suffer at the hands of International Bodies which have promulgated such lofty Conventions? Other than this violation, how many others have they not violated while we have been watching in horror? We need to see for ourselves how such Conventions are being implemented impartially.

Needless to say there are many traitorous politicians who are conniving with the LTTE terrorists together with their " pro-peace NGO mafia" which are totally blind to the actual brutality committed by the terrorists against helpless civilians living in the affected areas. For this segment (anti-government and anti-national elements) of our population , nothing matters more than returning to power! Therefore, to achieve this goal they have no qualms about siding with the enemies of The Nation. While they travel in luxury vehicles and live and eat in luxury hotels while instigating & conniving with the brutal terrorists to topple the incumbent GOSL, it is our ordinary farming families whose lives and crops are at stake- do they care?

Pro- peace lobbyists like Jehan Perera of the NPC and those hundred odd ladies who signed a petition " say no to war " - where are they when 15,000 families are deprived of water? Why don't they go to the forefront and demand the LTTE to " be more humane and peaceful in their actions" and to release the water to feed the civilians and the crops?
