Open Letter to Somawansa Amarasinghe,
Wimal Weerawansa, Tilvin Silva:
Dear patriotic brothers:
I have written many time in this forum in support of your patriotic
actions, admirably relentless at times, that in my view has saved SL
today from being fragmented like Cyprus. Ranil the Idiot and CBK the
Docile Cow did everything possible to allow the break up of our motherland
and you, along with patriots from the JHU, stood in their way at each
time and I along with other patriotic Sri Lankans are ever so grateful
to you.
However, this protest march in front of the US embassy in Colombo in
my view is totally misguided and very much ill timed.
Let me explain why I think so, as follows:
1. What do you hope to gain by this? Is it the wrath of the US - a
country that has and is today training our military personnel on specialized
counter-guerilla warfare and has even supplied us with a much needed
naval combat ship not long ago?
2. Or, it is the wrath of Israel, a country that has stood by SL in
thick and thin since the murderous LTTE terrorists started this campaign
since mid 1985? When the West said a firm NO! to Sri Lanka's request
to purchase much needed military hardware such as aircrafts, gunboats,
etc. Israel came to the rescue of SL. If not for the Israeli supplied
Kfir jets, Dvora gunboats, our military which essentially was a parade-ground
army up to that point, would have found it extremely difficult to cope
with the LTTE's terrorism, likely resulting in even more colossal losses
of men, material and territory to the LTTE than we have seen to date.
3. Even today, the Israeli Kfirs are in action against the murderous
LTTE carcass maggots in the East and it is ironical that you choose
to attack Israel, the very country that, understanding well what terrorism
is all about, supplied us with these super-sonic fighter-jet bombers
(essentially US Air Force's F-14 model, but assembled in Israel and
named Kfir) when every other country that we went to with a pleading
for purchase (not free) of armament - refused! The only other country
that sold us anything similar to the Kfir was China - the MIG jets,
but these are not on par with the fabulous Kfirs.
4. Israel gave us the Dvora fast-attack gunboats, which made a huge
difference to the SL Navy that up to that time had only an aging small
fleet (no more than 15) "chug-chug" slow boats. Dvoras made
the difference - they were able to not only chase and hunt down LTTE's
high-tech fast speed-boats (acquired with the money from the LTTE Tamil
Diaspora), but destroy them to smithereens once caught, with the superior
firepower that the Dvoras possess.
5. In comparison, what has Lebanon done for us to this day? Never mind
Lebanon, which went through her own woes not long ago, what has the
Arab world done for us in our fight against the murderous LTTE? Has
it provided material, financial, or even mere moral support to us in
our fight against the LTTE terrorist carcass maggots? Despite that even
SL Muslims have been repeatedly massacred by the LTTE, even right within
the mosques when they were praying to Allah, the Arab world did not
think it was only proper to support the democratically elected sovereign
government of Sri Lanka to wipe out the LTTE terrorism.
6. Is this protest march not going to help Hezbollah, the equally murderous
terrorist-guerilla group? Hezbollah is no different to the LTTE in my
view. Hezbollah has repeatedly brought untold misery (like now) upon
the Lebanese people by provoking Israel into wars, just as the LTTE
does with the GOSL. Through its asinine actions (by ambushing and kidnapping
Israeli soldiers) Hezbollah has been successful this time too to bring
mass death and destruction upon Lebanon. LTTE too, through its terrorism,
has successfully reduced the SL Tamil community to a state of lasting
destitute.
7. On another note, a religious note, I would like to remember that
the Arab world did squat to dissuade the that time rulers of Afghanistan,
the Taliban, from blowing up the sacred Bammiyan Buddha statues. Sri
Lanka pleaded with the Taliban, but Taliban did not spare these historical
(never mind religious) statues. I would like to know if Hezbollah or
Lebanon protested to the Taliban when that equally murderous group (like
the LTTE) was blowing up these statues.
8. One thing I know about the Arab world and Lebanon today for certain
is how it treats our poor, innocent, housemaids who go there, often
leaving behind even little infants because of sheer poverty. These countries
have such a callous, disdainful, attitude towards South Asian laborers
and it has been especially so with the poor housemaids. These poor women
from rural villages, mostly in southern Sri Lanka, have been beaten,
burnt, raped, pushed from balconies, and even deprived of their wages
by their employers in these countries and Lebanon has not been clean
either. Of course, the so called authorities in these countries have
done squat to bring the Arab culprits to justice and often the maid
is the one who is found guilty (of some obscure charge) and jailed and
then deported to Sri Lanka - penniless! Once thing I know about the
US and Israel is that such occurrences, if they did happen and I have
only heard of it rarely, are firmly dealt with those countries' existing
human rights and criminal laws. Recently a SL maid in the US was able
to do just that - bring charges against her abusive employers - unthinkable
in Lebanon and the Arab world!
9. It is a known fact that PLO, PFLP, and all other shades of so called
Arab "militants" (likely including Hezbollah) in Lebanon trained
our own so called "Tamil militants" during the 80's on handling
of high-explosives. The expertise that LTTE received from these "veterans"
is even seen today in action against the SLDFs. I do not recall either
the US or Israel training the LTTE on anything for aggression against
our country.
The bottom line: My patriotic brothers, I hate to admit it, but YOU
ARE MISGUIDED. At this critical juncture in our struggle against the
murderous LTTE carcass maggots, I would say you need to think of self-interest
and self-survival first and then philanthropy.
