THE SURROGATE WAR

Patriot

Sri Lanka was 27Th in the quality of life in 1977. We had shown the world that a low GDP was not a barrier to quality existance. It was not perfect. Then JRJ was put into power with the promise of a better standard of living. From that day onwards we have been on a slippery slope.

Let the ROGUES COME was his slogan. Well, the rogues have come and we as country has been completely destroyed. Complicit in this debacle has been the IMF & the world bank who virtually run our economy now.

The future generations of the country has been pawned by these treacherous politicians hand in hand with the foreigners and the business leaders. We were in debt to the tune of $500 million then and now we have a 20 billion debt.

Our nascent industries and public services have either been destroyed or has been sold to the foriegners. There is nothing substantial we can see for this borrowed money except to say that some politicians and businessmen are now living abroad comfortably. From where they got the money is pretty obvious. This to me was the start of the surrogate war to destroy our way of life.

Hand in hand was the terrorist war initially instigated by india by the way of training and arming the tamil insurgents. Now india has a haegomonic hold on our politicians and has substantial financial interest.

Now the surrogate war is conducted in a more subtle manner by the so called international community. They turn a blind eye to drug trafficking, collection of money from the diaspora, people trafficking and money laundering. This money has been used to buy arms to destabilise sri lanka. Recently how ever few countries have suddenly got wind of the LTTE activities.

With such good intelligence services they have it is hard to believe they took 23 yrs to realise it. Certain other countries continue to turn a blind eye. It is ironic that these countries are the first to shout if the government takes military action to maintain Sri Lankas integrity.

The third force are the NGOs who are mainly from the minority communities. There activities range from deliberate attempts at changing the social configuration of the sri lankan society to blatantly helping the tigers to establish a separate state. These NGOs are a new phase of neo colonialism. They practice a dictum unity among us and disunity in the rest of the world. The famous Devide and Rule.

Complicit in this whole thing is the Sri lankan politician and business elite.Ironicaly they are products of a schooling system established by the British to exploit us.The famous saying by a governor of the indian Raj comes to my mind. He said "We want a Indian who is brown in colour who dress like us, who thinks like us who behaves like us who will be the go between us and the rest "We have continued the process right through our independence.

It is ironic that majority of our leaders have either been converts or are children of coverts. In spite of a lot of rhetoric of the sinhala buddhist hegemony it is unfortunate that they have not been adequately represented be it in the economy of the country or even the peace process.

There interests are not even considered until recently. Every time they try to assert themseveles allegations of communalism, Buddhist hegemony etc. have been used to denigrate them. The international media and the NGOS actively take part in this.

It is time that the sri lankans realise that to continue in this vein is to there detriment. We must achieve unity,we should not sell our sole to the foreigners for money, we should be united against every outsider who wishes to create disunity, we must establish our birthright in the country and be against any outsiders who wishes to destabilise us and haegomonise us both politically and economicaly.

We should be brave to fight against these distasteful Trojan horses be it the LTTE or NGOs.Our destiny lies in our hands not in india or the international community.
