Solheim, the terrorists of Sri Lanka are your baby. You should ask them to lay down arms.
You cannot ask the Government to do so.

By Charles Perera

Erik Solheim, has said, that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) must reopen the water supply to prevent further civilian suffering and damage to crops. He has also appealed to both parties Government of Sri Lanka as well as the LTTE to withdraw their respective armed forces ;.

These are the type of ranting by Solheim that has made the terrorists what they are. And he continues to do so despite the utter mess into which he had pushed Sri Lanka . The Governments of Sri Lanka waited too long to do what it is doing to-day depending naively on the wisdom of the International Community. When things are at a manageable situation, every body offers advise to both sides the Government and the terrorists to negotiate peace. And when the terrorists take the upper hand, the "do-gooders" are not heard of.

The telephone rings at the Indian Prime Ministers working table, he lifts it while attending to his other important state matters. The call is from the President of Sri Lnnka. Mr; Singh has nothing substantial to offer, other than, may be, a word of sympathy.

Solheim, should try to understand what caused the present dispute , and who was the cause of it. Does he know that the Government of Sri Lanka had right along tried to be tolerant despite the provocations by the terrorists ? Despite the murder of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, late Mr. Kadirgamar, and several other Military Officers, and the attempted assassination of the Army Commander ?

Under the circumstances Solheim should ask his friends the LTTE terrorists stop provocations, and the present aggression and open the sluice gatesinstead of asking the Sri Lanka government to withdraw the armed forces. If the terrorists do not listen to Solheim he should get the International Community to intervene to demand the terrorists to lay down arms, without asking at the same time, the Sri Lanka Givernment to lay down theirs;.

That is how it has to be done Mr.Solheim, but not the way you are doing it again putting the terrorists and the government in par with each other.
