Who owns ‘ill defined’ areas in Sri Lanka?

Ramanie de Zoysa

SLMM excused the LTTE action of killing 13 Sri Lankan soldiers who were carrying out a ‘search and clear operation’ in Wakarei whose dead bodies were dumped unceremoniously into the back of dusty trailer and handed over to the Red Cross as a gift to the Sri Lankan Government for giving VIP treatment to LTTE killer Daya Master by saying that the Sri Lankan Government soldiers entered an ‘ill defined’ area.

That is the cue from the SLMM to the international community that ‘Sri Lankan soldiers did something they shouldn’t have and they got what they deserved’. This same excuse was recycled by the SLMM in the latest incident where the LTTE barbarians closed the sluice gates at Mahaweli Oya denying water to the farmers. According to SLMM the gates are located in an ‘ill defined area’ and that justifies LTTE monkeying with it.

When the SLMM states that an area is ‘ill defined’ they mean that the area has missed being ‘defined’ for the purpose of handing over to the Tamil racist terrorists by virtue of the CFA. These arrogant double-crossing foreigners must be reminded that the democratically elected Sovereign State of Sri Lanka is the sole guardian of all land, sea and air resources of Sri Lanka whether any area has been ‘defined’ in the CFA or not. Where an area has been ‘defined’ for the terrorists by the CFA that simply allows the LTTE to step foot into that area.

On the other hand, if any area has not been defined or 'ill defined' by the CFA that just means that the LTTE has absolutely no right to step into that area and that the Sri Lankan Government alone has all rights to that area. The SLMM and the Norwegians, naturally, seem to have got this the wrong way around which just happens to be conveniently beneficial to the terrorists. Their interpretation seems to be that the Sri Lankan Government soldiers who ventured into the ‘ill-defined’ area breached the CFA and the LTTE was quite within their rights to attack and kill them.

The inference is that unless ‘defined’ by the CFA as ‘Sri Lankan Government areas’ the LTTE owns all other areas. This is the kind of topsy turvy thinking that we the Sri Lankans have come become used to over a long period so much so the Sri Lankan Government seems to merrily go along with these comments of the SLMM.

I plead with the Sri Lankan President Mr Rajapakse who is a lawyer by profession to take issue with SLMM on these rulings or statements and correct the position of the Sri Lankan Government.
