They are not UNP members who are crossing over, but real patriots who feel the necessity to support the government to wipe out the terrorists.By Charles Perera
Please therefore evaluate the political figures now, to sweep them
away, when the time comes, from the Sri Lanka political scene for ever.
The statements the UNP and its leadership are making at this politically
and socially difficult period, clearly show that they are not with the
people. At a time when people of all political and social shades should bury their differences and unite together as one Nation, behind the President and the government giving them the strength and confidence to rid the country of the terrorist menace, the UNP is doing exactly the opposite trying to put the people against the government, indirectly helping the terrorist LTTE. The statement issued by the UNP and reproduced in the Lanka Truth on the 4 instant is anti patriotic , and pro- terrorist . To UNP Sri Lanka is a failed state. If so, the UNP should know that they were responsible in no small measure, to making it that. The present government is only trying to put right the wrongs done by the UNP, the “political crimes” of the UNP Government led by Ranil Wickramasinghe. Yes the political crimes, because it was the UNF government of Ranil, with G.L.Pieris, BradmanWeerakone, Jayalath Jayawardhane and others that contributed to making the LTTE terrorists a formidable military force by allowing them to bring in ship loads of arms and ammunitions, communication material, and helped the terrorists to hunt and to kill the members of the intelligence arm of the Sri Lanka Army. The UNP is blaming the President and the Government for the cross over
of the UNP Parliamentarians to the Government side. It is natural that
those members of what ever political party join the government now,
because there is a necessity for unity in the present situation the
country is facing. In due course it will not be a few elected UNP Parliamentarians who will be crossing over, but the bulk of the patriotic people who voted UNP and formed its block vote. |
