SO THE DEVIL NEEDS BLOOD AND CORPUSES FOR HIS BIRTHDAY

Dilrook Kannangara

When the birthday or the feast of a devil nears, offerings are made by the devotees. This remains a practice in remote parts of Indonesia, Congo, PNG, Bolivia and possibly few other countries. It is that time for Sri Lanka.

Most civilised races prefer religious or pleasant social activates on birthdays in stark contrast to what the LTTE, TNA and the other devotees of terror want. It is high time that these terror groups (including Tiger Nominated Agents) are banned under the provisions of the PTA and the Constitution. Further delays result in more groups joining in with these hooligans to intimidate the people and elected representatives.

Hopes pinned on help from the international community have been dashed time and time again. There cannot be any help from the IC unless another major onslaught is carried out by the Al-Qaeda or its allies. After a likely Democratic victory in the US mid term elections and retirement of the British PM, the IC will further distance itself from fighting terror.

Habarana and Galle attacks were given the status of exciting news by the local and international media groups whereas the recent aerial bombing of terror camps was criticised by them. If we await further attacks to convince the international community of the terror outfit of the LTTE, there can be irreversible damage in terms of army morale, loss of territory and human lives and also it will allow the terrorists to take the upper hand in battle.

The only sure way to safeguard national assets (dams, hospitals, habitations, other structures and human lives) is to exterminate the LTTE and its supporters.

If postponed further, we will have the blame game going on between the government and the opposition. Terrorist threats should be taken very seriously and the forces should be mobilised to fiercely retaliate any terror attacks. Time is running out for the terror leader for his promised “final push” to capture Jaffna. Trinco and Karainagar will be major battle fields to recapture Jaffna as the peace negotiators failed to get the Kappang highway opened. Muhamale FDL has already come under a steady stream of shells and this is likely to continue.

Recent civilian reports from the North have indicated light aircraft movement. There is a high probability that the Iranamadu air strip might have been rebuilt after May’06 aerial bombardment. Constant air surveillance of boats, heavy vehicles and other large objects should be carried out. Stepping up attacks on areas of high terrorist mobilisation, as seen in the past few weeks, will ensure maximum casualties to them forcing them to abandon terror plans. Will the devil starve to death this time around devoid of its favourite corpuses and blood ?
