The UN and the International Community should step in to stop terrorism, whether in USA , Europe or Sri Lanka to avoid more situations like the murder in Mutur or massacre in Qana.By Charles PereraWar is a dirty, and a most sordid means of human destruction. In that dirty war nothing that is tolerable to a civilized being could ever happen. But war had existed in different forms from the inception of man kind, though terror had been introduced into tribal attacks at a later stage of human development. But as every thing else terror in war, also developed in most unthinkable ways . After the Hitler’s abhorrent war of hatred against Jews, the civilized world thought, that type of human disaster will not raise its dirty head again. But have we learnt lessons from those gruesome cruelty to humanity ? Unfortunately we have not and it continues in Asia, Africa, America, Europe, and in the Middle East, in its worst form. In these wars any thing can happen , therefore taking any individual situation and highlighting it to the exception of the terrorism as a whole, is like not seeing the wood for the trees. The sad brutal killing of innocent men and women who came to help those suffering in a brutal war against terrorism in Mutur, or innocent men women and children trying to live peacefully through a raging war in Qana, are the aftermaths of brutal confrontations between human beings ideologically opposed to one another. If some solution is not found to eradicate terrorism from our midst, we may continue to have multitudes of such situations. Though it is important to find out who actually killed or caused the deaths here in Mutur, or there in Qana, these situations should make the International Community come alive to the fact that terrorism in what ever form should be stopped whether in USA or in Great Britain. Therefore, the Indian attitude of "not intervening directly with Sri Lanka"s peace process and using all persuasions", is getting nowhere with the continued terrorism, which may eventually spread even to India. The most abhorrent killing of the aid workers in Mutur, should therefore
not be made the reason to withdraw assistance to those still in need,
but it should be made the occasion to make the American, British, French
, German and other public aware that these are the results of terrorism
This is an occasion for the wise International Community who pretends to know all the answers to step in and force the terrorists in Sri Lanka to lay down their arms and get them to settle their grievances with the government in a more democratic way, instead of sending messages that " both parties should initiate talks to resolve all issues". |
