Foolishly, CBK provided - just for the asking - all the needed critical
medical care to the LTTE killers when such requests came via the ever
so conniving Norwegians. She bent over backwards to appease the LTTE
by providing SLAF helicopters to air lift critically wounded/ill LTTE
killers to Colombo hospitals for urgent treatment under a blanket of
SLDF security. She did not bat an eyelid when asked to airlift, from
Vanni to the Colombo airport, for these same LTTE killers to go abroad
for urgent medical care. A case in point is how she personally facilitated
in sending LTTE's "sea tiger" honcho, Soosai, to Singapore
for treatment. She thought these gestures were bound to have a pay-off
for the so called peace process as they would make the LTTE a moderate
opponent! How sadly mistaken she was! LTTE repaid her kindness with
vicious attacks against SLDF and innocent civilians with a toll now
topping over 1,000 dead and over 600 wounded since she, thankfully,
departed.
Today President MR, very gullibly, is making the same mistake. Naively,
he believes this type of gesture will change the LTTE! Sire, I say to
you - Dream on! What is clearly damaging about this type of servility
- in the face of escalating vicious aggression from the LTTE - is that
it is the very thing that continues to demoralize SLDF personnel who
are today at the receiving end from the LTTE. While SLDF personnel are
being killed by the LTTE terrorists, GOSL orders SLDF to provide security
for the very same LTTE killers so that they can have special medical
treatment in Colombo! When will this insanity stop?
I say the curse of our nation has been not so much the LTTE, but the
short-sighted, ignorant, strategy-less, docile heads of our nation who
have stood in the way of liquidating the LTTE. Sucking up to the LTTE
is a severe scourge and starting with Premadasa, all have given into
it shamelessly (of course, the crown still being adorned by Ranil Wickremasinghe)
with disastrous results.
