Shame, Shame UN and UNICEF-
Ratnajeewa Halpita Singapore
The issue about the killing of 40 individuals from the
LTTE baby brigade seems to be blown out of proportion. Anybody pointing
a gun at you or threatens you with a bomb is a deadly threat and has
to be dealt accordingly. If anybody is asking us to hug such individuals
is either insane or stupid. The real culprits are those who gave guns
and bombs to these unfortunate minors instead of toys and those who
mollycoddled these terrorists.
The LTTE has once again started their dirty game of misleading the
world with its effective lying machinery in the cyber and electronic
media. The irony is that the rest of the world finds it convenient
to believe any callous lie that is put forward by this bunch of murderous
criminals. This is a very sad situation as it will only strengthen
this ruthless organisation and make the Sri Lankan masses suffer at
the hands of the suicide bombings and other terror activities of the
LTTE.
The UN once again has proved its inefficiency to grasp the true ground
situation of a conflict and appears to be issuing the ever common
ineffective pointless statement for both parties to abide by
the CFA.This does not contribute one single bit towards resolving
the conflict yet gives the terrorist organisation a moral boost in
their status recognition. The head of the UN seems to be trusting
LTTE terrorist media more than what a legitimate government has to
say about a situation regarding the recent bombing incident where
40 odd underage combatants were killed. The UN has been bold enough
to refute the view of the Government of Sri Lanka without any proper
evidence or investigation. They seems to be influenced by the Pro
terrorist media and the view of a couple of laymen who were taken
for a joy ride to some where in the tiger territory to show some bodies
of dead girls. It is pertinent to ask a few questions from these individuals
including the UNICEF resident representative who were busy giving
their opinion on this issue
How and with whom did they go to this site-as this area is still not
readily accessible to civilians due to ongoing fighting
How did they identify the exact site of bombardment-ground identification
What criteria did they use to identify tiger military training site
On what criteria did they say that the girls who died were not forced
recruits or child soldiers
Could not the dresses of the dead have been changed after death
Who conducted these training classes to these individuals in the middle
of fierce battling and what was being taught
Further more what credentials do these pundits who visited these sites
have, to voice their opinion on a combat ground and identification
of dead in a conflict? I am sure that these jokers would dare not
try such heroic feats in places like Lebanon, Iraq or Afghanistan
nor even in England where the antiterrorism law is creating problems
to non white civilians. They should be grateful that Sri Lankans are
a nation who has a very high tolerant threshold!
The UN and the UNICEF has miserably failed their duty in not being
able to stop the LTTE from recruiting children to military combat
and suicide missions. Thus now they are busy issuing statements to
Both parties to keep children out of conflict This is
a very bias situation as it is very clear to any impartial observer
that those underage individuals killed in the recent bombing were
LTTE child soldiers. There is no reason for children to
be away from home for a 10 day workshop in the middle of a raging
war and no correct thinking parent would allow their children to be
on their own in such an environment. In any other country the parents
and the organisers of such an event would be punished by law for negligence
and irresponsibility. The UNICEF has no right to issue statements
or give directives to a democratically elect government of a country
where the UNICEF has failed to protect children from being forcefully
recruit to military combat. What has UNICEF an the UN got to say about
the 3000 strong baby brigade of the LTTE and the recent revelation
of training children for the final war by the LTTE?
Please let the Sri Lankan government do their job. The Sri Lankan
military has probably the best tract record for keeping the civilian
casualties so low, compared to any army in the present world situation,
especially considering the civilian casualties in Lebanon and Iraq.
The human right violations are minimal in Sri Lanka and negligent
when compared to the situation in occupied Iraq and stories from its
prisons. There is no place for terrorism in the present world and
they have to be hunted down and destroyed.
