ERIC SELVAN/TAMILSELVAN DUO’S SELF CONTRADICTORY PEACE FAÇADE.

As predicted and expected by the patriotic masses, the washers of tiger terrorists’ dirty linen belonging to the reactionary camp who would plunge themselves even to the bottom level of ignominy to protect and promote the tiger terrorists and support and parrot the biased views of the aliens have taken hold of all available publicity avenues, including display of posters on Colombo walls to demand a halt to military exercises and commence negotiations. Predictably it was the Norway born ERIC SELVAN who fired the first salvo to protect his tiger kin facing extinction giving voice to a bundle of lies and claiming that the government had unconditionally agreed for talks in his bastion Oslo. This was corroborated by his beloved cousin, champion of hollow threats and master of lies, Tamilselvan. This wicked duo with illusionary objectives is being backed by the so- called toothless Co-Chairs with absurd demands, thinking that Sri Lanka is a puppet nation ruled by their puppets akin to Iraq and some other countries.

Eric Selvan’s instant and voluntary action aimed at preventing further advances by Sri Lankan security forces from Sampur confirms his deep commitment to the illusory Eelam cause of the tiger terrorists. In a recent interview with the Indian magazine Tehelka, this white tiger said that Norway was supporting Tamil right to self-rule in Sri Lanka. It was due to this deep rooted commitment Eric Selvan (I am using the name Eric Selvan because I feel that it is the most appropriate nomenclature this white tiger deserves) took great pain in formulating the ignominious Ranil/Prabhakaran MOU which gave wide powers and legality to the terrorist outfit, promoted them in the international arena in collaboration with the Ranil Wickremasinghe regime and provided them sophisticated military weaponry such as sea- scooters and highly sensitive communication equipment. Persistent endeavours made by him to legitimize the obnoxious P-TOMS together with former President Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunge for granting undue international recognition to the least affected terrorist outfit and make them custodian of Tsunami funds would have been another dreadful blow to Sri Lankan integrity if it was not legally aborted.

In the present situation, similar to what he did to deceive Ranil Wickremasinghe in 2002 and mislead Mrs. Chandrika in the P-TOMS mess Prabhakaran’s white cousin Eric Selvan has hoodwinked the so-called Co- Chairs stating that both the Government of Sri Lanka and the terrorist outfit have expressed willingness to come to talks unconditionally if facilitated by Norway. This is a serious defamatory statement attributed to Sri Lanka when the government has not made such a statement and he remains condemned by all Sri Lankans
for this premeditated blunder.

The statement issued by the so-called Co-Chairs on 12th Septmeber 2006 unveils their duplicity in dealing with terrorists and terrorism. It was on the previous day, September 11th these double-tongued pundits used all their media channels to severely condemn the 9/11, 2001 blow up of U.S. twin-towers, and resolutely pledged that terrorists and terrorism anywhere and everywhere will not be tolerated and terrorism and terrorists will be totally erased from the surface of this soil.

If they are so genuinely committed to eradicate terrorism and honest in their utterances how could they apply a different parameter to the tiger terrorists, the ruthless terrorist outfit that has carried out the highest number of suicide bombings, murdered several thousand persons including Heads of States, State Ministers, high ranking politicians and religious dignitaries? How could they demand the Sri Lankan government to hold talks with such an outfit instead of helping the Sri Lankan government to annihilate these enemies of humanity and cleanse the world from terrorists and terrorism as they pledged in the churches throughout their countries on the previous day? Why they remained silent and non-exigent when the Sri Lankan forces and the innocent civilians were being systematically and brutally murdered daily since last December?

Rebuttal made by the government rather than conceding with the deliberate vicious statement made by Eric Selvan, as it had been customary during Ranil/Chandrika tenures is a welcome step. The government should demand Eric Selvan to make a public apology for this spiteful act. In the midst of this white tiger conspiracy the government has taken the right direction to address the terrorist menace by demanding a written pledge from Tiger supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran that his organization will cease all hostilities if he wanted the Government to consider recommencing the peace talks aimed at finding a lasting solution acceptable to all.

Champion of hollow threats Tamilselvan contradicting his own recent statements has issued a new statement demanding Sri Lankan forces should reverse all its advances to the pre-CFA borders. Where now stands Eric Selvan’s statement that both sides had agreed for talks without any precondition?

Many terrorist organisations that played havoc in the life of innocent people in many parts of the world in the recent past have given up their terrorist objectives and embarked on peaceful political means in order to win their demands. They include the IRA (Irish Republican
Army) which terrorised the United Kingdom for several decades, Free Aceh Rebels known as GAMs in the Aceh province of Indonesia which was waging war with the Indonesian government demanding a separate State, LRA (Liberian Rebel Army) of Liberia are some of the outfits that had recently abandoned their terrorist cause.

As long as the tiger terrorists hold on to their arms not only they pose a threat to Sri Lanka’s security forces but also pose a threat to the innocent masses regardless of ethnicity. The latest report of the University Teachers for Human Rights (UTHR) Jaffna, (Bulletin No.
41) clearly details the threat being posed by the tiger terrorist outfit to the innocent people living in the Northern and Eastern provinces. It says that people in the areas under the occupation of the terrorist outfit are forced to work 15 days a month for the terrorist outfit without wages so that they could spend the remaining
15 days to practice their normal trade and support their families.
These families also live in constant fear of getting killed. It is out of such fear, the report says, that many of them flee to India desperately.

Although the government has obliged the requests made by the Co-Chairs whenever and wherever possible, the terrorist outfit from the very beginning of their call to attend the Tokyo Conference and upto now has completely ignored the Co-Chairs and totally rejected their demands. If they are truly and honestly interested in establishing peace in Sri Lanka, the first step they should take is not only to support Sri Lanka’s demand for the terrorists to renounce terrorism and decommission their weapons but take strong and effective measures to force the terrorists to implement this demand. Mere statements will have no value. Match you intentions effective with fitting deeds to prove your honesty and genuineness.
