The death of the 60 children in Mulaithivu was a sad tragedy, who ever they were. But the cause of it is the LTTE Terrorism.

Let the anti war-lobby open their eyes to reality, lest they divide the people and encourage hatred and vengeance";.

By Charles Perera

The situation in Sri Lanka should not be used for political advantage. A war is waged between countries, and defensive action by a government against a terrorist group that has taken arms to vindicate their rights is not a war.

It is a serious situation and the people has to support the government what ever the political colour of it is, as terrorism is a canker that has to be burnt out. Terrorism is savagery in its crudest form which drags a civilization back to primitive age.

Those who manifest against war at this time are dividing the population, which may have the serious consequence of kindling the fires of vengeance, arousing sentimentality ,resulting in a civil war in the country as we had seen happening in the past.

No body wants war, specially now when Sri Lanka is showing signs of development economically, socially and culturally. We want unity, and in its search we should remove all obstacles, be it ethnic differences, religious intolerance, and most of all terrorism.

It is a sad tragedy, when arms are taken to suppress terrorism, innocent men, women and children become victims. It is still a greater tragedy when the aggressor who has taken arms is a young boy or a young girl. They are the citizens of tomorrow , who could contribute to make Sri Lanka a happy place for all, but they are instead used as shields to protect the ruthless terrorists behind them, and as fodder for the indifferent bullets and shrapnels.

A child symbolizes the most precious, treasure of a family that is the happiness and hope of the parents. The parents who make untold sacrifice to make them men and be useful to the family and then to the country. They are also a treasure of the nation, the architects of a glorious future. It is to save them that the terrorists should be defeated and rid of.

The terrorists who now morn the death of 51 children, are heartless inhuman beings, who would readily send one by one these children, not to create a better future for itself, or for his family, or to the country, but to burst in to pieces as a live bomb to cause more deaths.

What does it matter who were these 60 children, who died in Mulaithivu ?Whether they were soldiers in training or students preparing their exams, they were after all young girls, future mothers, and citizens. It is a great tragedy, and it is sad their lives ended in this terrible way.

But what was the cause of this tragedy. It is easy to blame the army for having dropped that bomb just there, where these girls were for what ever reason. The blame should go to the terrorist for having instigated this bombardment.

Therefore, to avoid further such tragedies, every body should unite to help the government to put and end to terrorism. As the LTTE terrorists do not understand any language of peace, these tragedies may open their eyes to the meaninglessness of armed aggression, and agree to the government's request to come for peace negotiations.
