Ranil appeased terroists, Mahinda appeases the International Community. (India pontificating to us about human rights of terrorists, denies human rights to Dalits)

By Charles Perera

We blamed Ranil Wickramasinghe for appeasing the LTTE Terrorists. But the President Mahinda Rajapakse does not seem to be doing better. He is appeasing the International Community and speaks to Indian Leaders, like a Chief of a Vassal State of India.

There were never real peace talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Terrorists. What they called peace negotiations were the Government and the terrorists meeting in a foreign capital and the government and the Norwegians coaxing the terrorists to talk peace. As LTTE terrorists do not want peace the negotiations failed.

It appears ludicrous Mahinda Rajapakse swearing before foreign government leaders, that despite LTTE leader Prabhakaran's warnings, his Government will not in any way deviate from a negotiated political settlement for permanent peace in the country. He may not want to deviate from a negotiated political settlement, but Prabhakaran swears he does not want any thing less than an Eelam for his people. In the circumstances with whom is Mr.Rajapakse going to negotiate. Mr. Rajapakse and Mr. Prabhakaran are not on the same wave length, and Mr. Rajapakse’s statements does not seem to be that of a wise man.

Mr.Mahinda Rajapkse tells Mr. Karunanidhi the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu that he has always urged the LTTE leader to come to the negotiating table and discuss with him directly, sans outsiders. Reading these statements of Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse one feels that he is further from the reality, and sounds ludicrous.

He should not show himself a Chief of a Banana State dependent on the generosity of the other Nations, seeking their applause, and a tap on his back. He should show that he is a leader who has not come begging for favours, but to tell them that it is the duty of the neighbouring states and the International Community to fight terrorism with a positive will on their part with out resorting to giving mere verbal support. Fighting terrorism has become a democratic necessity.

United States' top envoy Robert O. Blake yesterday said the international community will never support a separate state within Sri Lanka , and a solution to the ethnic problem should be found within a united country based on a North and South consensus. These are beautiful words without ambiguity, but where do these words going to lead us to. If it is wishes for horses beggars will also ride

Prabhakaran may be a megalomaniac, a ruthless murderous beast, but he speaks without fear or fervour, without wanting to please the gallery, seeking the applause of the International Community or Indian leadership.

What is so great about India ? Indian Government pontificates to us how to relate ourselves to the terrorists, reminding us of the human rights of the people in the North East. But is India following what it preaches? In Orissa state the the Dalit community cannot worship in the kovils. In this twenty first century should those people, who are also human beings, be kept prisnors of traditions, and amean unnatural, and an inhuman caste system. Is that not a denial of human rights to part of their citizenry ?

In a Small village in Bhandara district in Maharashtra four member of one Dalit family were slaughtered on 29th September 29th, 2006. The victims were Bhaiyyalal Bhotmange’s wife Surekha, 44, his daughter Priyanka, 18, sons, Roshan, 23, and Sudhir, 21. They were stripped naked and hacked to death by the higher cast families of the village. According to reports no body has even been taken to custody.

This is Indian way of respecting the human rights of its own people and India dare tell us we should treat better the terrorists and negotiate with them. Sri Lanka could give some lessons in human rights to India. The Dalits are not terrorists.
