AIR FORCE BOMBS
FAILED TO HARM ANY CIVILIANS IN WANNI
By Walter Jayawardhana
reporting from Los Angeles
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled
website , the Tamil Net claimed the Sri Lanka Air Force bombings in
the Wanni area failed to cause any injuries to the civilian population
there.
But website failed to mention any casualties to the LTTE
military personnel. The Sri Lanka Air Force earlier claimed that they
bombed only military targets. The LTTE heaquaters, Kilinochchi , is
in the Wanni area . The Tamil Net said, Sri Lanka Air Force Kfir
jets were observed over remote suburbs of Wanni in high altitude around
2.25 p.m. ,June 19 Monday. The website said the LTTE had earlier warned
they would be forced to retaliate if SLAF bombers continued to bomb
Wanni.
In addition to the Kfir jets, earlier a Sri Lanka reconnaissance plane
was also observed , the Tamil Net said.
The website said the bombs dropped by the Sri Lanka Air
Force failed to cause any harm to the civilians because the bombs used
by them were of an unguided variety. The website did not specify when
the bombs were dropped. But the website probably was only referring
to earlier bombings.
Meanwhile Military spokesman Prasad Samarasinghe said Sri Lankan Air
Force planes could fly anywhere in the Sri Lankan airspace. He said
bombing raids have now been stopped.
