What does it take to free an Officer (Police)?Shenali Waduge
Why does it come as no surprise that world leaders including the world media remains mum about the Israeli onslaught on Lebanon? Can the silence be accrued to the fact that the American economy as well as the American media is very much controlled by Jews?
Whatever the reasons the superpowers are quite satisfied in evacuating their countrymen to safety and evading annoying the Israeli Government who has quite blatantly declared to the world that since no World authority can stop Hezbollah Terrorist activity Israel will take up the challenge of eliminating them. One can wonder what would happen if Israel was tasked with eliminating the entire world of terrorism?
Coming back home our situation is very much different. Terrorism has been prevalent for over 2 decades. Our terrorists are viewed as Saviors of the Tamil people. It is surprising that in the eyes of the international community who really is seen as the terrorist the GOSL or the LTTE?
We have a situation in which a police officer is in LTTE custody even while the LTTE media spokesman Daya Master whimpers a request for medical assistance which is immediately responded by Military escorts and undue VIP treatment. The Government cared not to make any initiation to highlight its humanitarian gesture as a cue to releasing the police officer until patriotic movements took to the streets to remind the GOSL of what it should rightly do. Even the Buddhist clergy that traditionally ought to practice Ahimsa demanded stern action. By that time Daya Master was already released from hospital & thanked the President by killing almost 20 soldiers.
No one is asking the GOSL to turn into Israel. That may never be possible. But what remains is that an officer is in custody and the GOSL should realize that the people & especially the armed forces are watching what it plans to do about it. The release of the officer is dependant on the release of 5 LTTE cadres in Government custody. Exchange of prisoners is nothing new and I doubt keeping these 5 LTTE cadres would make very much of a difference to the murderous plans of the LTTE & therefore it maybe wise for the GOSL to seriously think about taking a quick decision.
We have seen the Government weaken itself by a string of very childish decisions in the recent past. To keep the reds at bay the GOSL is pulling carrots on green men some unable to walk straight while the integrity of others are very much in question. The defections and the bag of goodies that the GOSL is issuing like self-declared Santa Claus is only making the public disappointed at a man that they decided to place faith in.
Nothing is irreversible and there is still time to correct mistakes and do right by the people & the country. |
