The Mad Dog SagaJERALD OWENS from Iowa,
Sir, Mahinda Karunaratne alias Small Mahinda either you are a tamil tiger terrorist lover or a tamil tiger pretending to be a sinhalese person (may be your name is Mahendra Kuranaratnam - one of my sinhala friends over here suggested) or better still just as your pseudo name Small Mahinda suggests you are just a Small brained, ignorant kind of fella.
You seem to have a hatred to all things American and you profess to know solutions to all the ills in the world and finally you use words such as bastards, parasites, and such nasty words to describe world leaders.
You cannot be a Sinhalese. The Sinhalese I know are cultured, educated and very diplomatic in their choice and use of words. Even then if you are a still a Sinhalese you need help. Every country has it own share of crazy small people. For your information I have been visiting Sri Lanka since 1970, even though I was born a christian and was baptised as a christian, I am a Buddhist. I did not inherit buddhism as my birth right, neither do I worship make believe gods or deities created by man because of a fear psychosis. I read buddhism, buddhist philosophy and studied under various buddhist scholars before embracing this valuable philosophy in 1983. Even though I am a farmer I went to college and finished a Masters Degree in Philosophy.
My wife is a Sinhalese lady from southern Sri Lanka and she too is a very devout Buddhist. I do not pretend to know all about this great philosophy (of which I am honored to be follower and a student) but thank you for your lecture all the same.
Take a deep breath, walk two paces back and read my article again. Better still go to the archives and read all my contributions to Lankaweb since March this year. You seem to have got your knickers in a twist. The article did not in any way insult the great buddhist philosophy or Buddha, or Rohana Wijeweera the person, nor did it try to bring Israeli or US influence to Sri Lanka.
I did try to impress how terrorists should be dealt with may it be Hisballah or Tamil (Parasite) Tigers or Rohana Wijeweera - that caused the deaths of almost a hundred thousand innocent misled students (students must study before they try to govern) by misleading the innocents and by the then governments in trying to suppress them. I was in Sri Lanka during the first mess and then the second mess created by your hero.
You too have a democracy in Sri Lanka. A valuable political tool that gives every human being the right to live as free people and to freely elect the one who should govern them. The Sri Lankans have the right to use their vote to elect leaders that they are confident would govern them justly.
Mr. SMALL Mahinda were you born yesterday? Look around you. Why are the Sri Lankans only seem to elect a leader from the SLFP or the UNP.
By the way the people who we call Americans came from all over the world. At the last census carried out in 2001, there are people from 198 nations all living in one country without killing each other. We still have quite a lot of of Sri Lankans, Indians, from your part of the world trying to come to America to earn a decent living. I have not heard of Americans going over to your country looking for employment.
We do not have a great philosophy like Buddhism that the majority of the Americans follow (I wish we did) but people from every known philosophy or religion on mother earth are here. They have religious freedom to worship whoever and whatever they believe in. We do not have a 2550 year old history either (ours is only 230 years) but our government is transparent. We defend ourselves by hitting our enemy with everything we got to preserve law and order and to safeguard democracy. 28 percent of our budget is spent on the rest of the world. You hear that Mr. Small Mahinda we share what we have and we do not beg from others.
The original Americans were basically those who were not wanted in their own countries, who were persecuted because of their religious beliefs, the downtrodden who were dying from hunger, the poor who did not have land or food. They ran away from countries that were ruled by tyrants and from countries that had feudal systems of governance.
Our fore fathers who came here worked very hard. Mine came from Ireland. Even today the wealth of America is its working men and women. We do not have stupid politically motivated unions that try to bring down governments and neither do our politicians use unions to sabotage the governments. The unions are led by the very educated. Unions are sacred institutions. But they do their thing and look after injustices to workers if there are any.
When we catch politicians or rich men who cheat the Tax authorities or other federal or law enforcements authorities we put them in Jail and treat them like common criminals. We can challenge any of our politicians who live beyond their means and those who live in palaces as to how they earned their money. We even tried to impeach a president in the not too distant past who brought disgrace to the presidency by sleeping with a young girl. We do not have thousands of body guards and we do not waste tax dollars to safeguard our politicians. Our politicians account to us. They go by car and most times they drive their own vehicles.
We are civilized enough to understand the little social etiquettes such as first come is first served. We too have queues. But we follow the unwritten law. We do not jump queues. Nothing is free in the USA. Starting from education, health care and so many things that countries give free to people (even if these countries cannot afford them) for political gains. We create jobs by free market economy. Our students pay for higher education. There is nothing free. Children learn to earn a living from their high school days.
We do not spit in public and we respect others rights.Universities are not free. So the students do not think it is their god given right to get a free education and start revolutions. We do not have Wijeweeras and there are no reasons for them. Our politicians try to understand why they are elected to power. They do not have god given rights either.
Starting with China and Russia every communist country in the world except North Korea and Cuba have understood the fruitlessness of Communism and follow democratic systems of governance. Communism is a system of bullying the massess into slavery by a few who think they know better.
Our roads, parks, buildings, roads sides, beaches, schools, offices, and other public buildings are very clean. We pay very high salaries to our workers. Our politicans are accountable to people who elected them. They are not always rich. But most of them have had very high levels of education. Few are even ex - actors. We do not give crazy and foolish titles to human beings. President Bush is Mr. President or Mr. Bush. We do not call him His Excellency. That is a little stupid. Your holy highness, your highness, honorable Sir or madam are unheard of man made titles in USA.
We do not have child labor and we do not have servants. If one can afford one you can hire a house maid, or a house aid but at a minimum salary of about five dollars per every hour worked. You cannot make them slave ten or twelve hours a day, every day of the year. There is a law against it.
We do not give orders and we do not get work done by others. We do it ourselves.
We try to make America a good country. We try to share what we have.
You on the other hand are a selfish little man who got the wrong end of the stick. I am passing your name both sinhalese and the tamil name and the contents of your letter through my forum to the relevant US immigration authorities. Do not even dream about visiting USA Just in case. I on the other hand could visit Sri Lanka anytime I wish to. If you in the US already there are ways to find you. It is that simple.
Mr. Editor, Thank you for your valuable space in the Lankaweb.
