The President Mahinda Rajapakse should wake up from his state of euphoric amnesia, and return home, before UNP take over SLFP and the Government.

By Charles Perera

It is time that the President Mahinda Rajapakse comes back and takes things into his hand before the UNP will manipulate to take control of both the SLFP and the government. That may be the eventual reality of what Mr.Ranil Wickramasinghe had predicted at a meeting of the UNP leaders some time back, that he will form a government by December this year.

The President in his euphoria may get amnesiac about his mission and his Chinthanaya back home. It appears that he has already surrendered to the charm of the Norwegian Prime Minister. He has not even told Jens Stoltenberg before agreeing on the need to enhance bi-lateral relations with Norway, that Stolenberg should replace his Minster Solheim, and not allow him to deal with the peace process of Sri Lanka. That would be a proof of the Norwegian Prime Ministers, assurance that Henricsson`s statements did not reflect the views of his government.

Norway keeps breaking up the Sri Lanka Nation, with Solheim playing Godfather to LTTE, and now with the Norwegian Government granting Rs. 27 million to fund the Peace Secretariat for Muslims in Sri Lanka for the next year. We should open our eyes and be able to tell these Norwegians at least now that they should show their magnanimity by providing funds to Sri Lanka government to be spent on project which it thinks useful to the people.

We do not want Norwegians playing their dirty tricks with their excessive money, breaking up the nation according to communities any more. It is time we tell Norway to jump overboard, and not step into our country.

In the West they mistake people with smiling faces for idiots. Therefore, it is best the President Mahinda Rajapakse wakes up before he does more damage. Already with his call to UNP to form a National government, GLPieris, and Tissa Attanayaka take the upper hand issuing statements to the press, preparing work plans, and perhaps a writing the Federal Constitution as well. The UNP, claiming their discussions with the SLFP successful, criticising the JVP and JHU does not auger well.

There is no question that the military action by the security forces should be given up now. For how long can the army hold on. The President should be here to encourage the army and speak to the people. If peace negotiations are taken up once again, it is not essential that it should be held in Oslo. We may perhaps buy another Kfir plane and more powerful bombs to capture Elephant pass and bomb the LTTE bunkers in Kilinochchi, before we settle down to negotiate , whatever has to be negotiated with the LTTE criminals.

Amnesti International and the Humanitarians should get busy with what is happening in Lebanon, killing of Christians in Indonesia, USA threat to bomb Pakistan to Stone age, massacres in Darfur, as Sri Lanka problem is being looked after, need no meddling by outsiders at the moment.
