Beware of the SLMM.

Chris malavi UK

It is time that GOSL takes proper steps to curtail the SLMM activities in this country. There have been ample instances where the impartiality of the SLMM was breached. Today, many of us seriously doubt that the Norwegians are here to do a decent job.

In a situation like this, I am extremely concerned of the news that I read on Tamilnet, appointment of former Norwegian Army Chief as the next Head of SLMM.
This could well be another timely move by those who are trying invariably to undermine unity and integrity of Sri Lanka by supporting the LTTE.

We all know that the LTTE suffered heavy loses in the recent fighting at the eastern and northern theaters.
In a time like this those ex-military members of the SLMM can act as advisors to the LTTE. The news article in the Tamilnet says that the former Chief of Staff of the Norwegian Army, upon retirement ran his own Consultancy Firm in Oslo. Hence there is a possibility that the LTTE might have already had dealings with him.

On the other hand why the Norwegians always appoint ex-military personnel to SLMM. Why cannot they be of civil service personnel? It is time that GOSL and the Military Heads take notice of these moves.

If we carefully look at the comments made by officials belongs to some SLMM and INGOs to the media on the SLAF bombing of LTTE training camp, one can clearly see that they have a hidden agenda. It is true that the GOSL is in need of the support of these organizations at times, but that does not mean that the government can allow them to freely say and do what they like. The GOSL must be firm when dealing with SLMM and INGOs and they must be clearly told of the limits. Those who fail must be shown the exit.
When look at the way things are happening in our country it brings to my mind the old Sinhalese saying “Ange Indang Kana Kanawa”.

The GOSL must exercise no tolerance when any member of the SLMM, UNIEF, UNHCR or INGOs give statements to the media or act in a manner misleading the masses and the international community. Such acts must be regarded as undermining of national security, sovereignty and integrity of our motherland.
