What are we waiting for ? Another spectacular, gruesome suicide bomb, that may perhaps assassinate the President ?

By Charles Perera

What are we waiting for while the terrorist brutes take the toll of our security forces, civilians, and members of Tamil Political Parties opposed to terrorism.

Are we waiting for another spectacular suicide bomb which would successfully target perhaps the President, so that we may pay written tributes posthumously, and fly flags at half mast, hold religious ceremonies. Then as always, put the blame to the security lapses and forget the whole episode until the next big attack. Dead are dead, living may die and what can we do seem to be the order of the day.

It is time that some one tries to put an end to this destructive situation. If we continue to “wait and see”, it will not be too long before the LTTE build the boundaries of their Eelam. And We will still go to India to ask what we should do next. And India will always say negotiate, as much as the International Community.

Now is the time to attack the LTTE, too many personnel of our security forces are dying in vain, sitting ducks for terrorist, snipers, pistol gangs, grenade lobbers and claymore bombs. It is a hard thing to say, “let them at least die fighting for the country”. What has happened to the President ? It is true running a country as ours, with the terrorists doing things as they want, aided and abetted by the International Community, is not an easy task. But his “chintanaya” will have little use once the country is divided and subjugated by savage brutes- the LTTE terrorists.

JVP is loosing its grip on the political situation and their popularity too is in the wane. If they are to win back the confidence of the people they will have to join the government. Otherwise, they will soon loose their place in the Sri Lanka political scene.

While we wait the LTTE is fortifying themselves and building their provisional government. It will be too late when we wake up to the situation. One need not be a political analyst to know that India will not be our alley in our war against terrorism. The Government should wake up and strike while the iron is hot. Israel is going against all principles in its war against the Hezbollah. We should follow suit against the terrorists of LTTE, we have a better right to do it than the Israel against Hezbollah. The LTTE Terrorists who have discarded all human norms of civility, should be attached in every way possible until nothing would remain of them.. They should not be allowed to continue their terrorism with impunity.
