SLAF fighters destroy a Sea Tiger base - Veththalakerni

Sri Lanka News

Air Force fighter jets destroyed a key Sea Tiger base at Veththalakerni this morning as (Thursday the 24th of August) the LTTE terrorists continued with their shelling attacks at the security forces defence lines at Omanthai and Muhamaliai and Batticaloa.

The target was another well established terrorists' strong hold which had been used as a launching platform for sea borne attacks by the LTTE. Sea tigers are reported to have suffered heavy damages.

LTTE terrorists carried out sporadic minor attacks at Vavunathivu, Muhamalai, Nakarkovil , Vavuniya, Vandaramulla, and Kokkuthuduwal FDLs yesterday (Wednesday 23rd of August). A soldier was killed and eight other security forces personnel suffered injuries in these attacks.

Further, the LTTE terrorist have attacked the security forces forward defence line at Nawakkulam , 2 km west of Omanthai entry -exit point this morning at 11.30. The Army troops successfully foiled the terrorist attack chasing away the terrorists. A body of a slain terrorist and a T-56 machine gun was recovered in a subsequent search operation.

Despite the government's continuous commitment to peace process and readiness to begin peace talks the LTTE leadership seemed to continue with his frenzy to defeat the security forces by treacherously sending more Tamil youth to death.

In this backdrop the government has no other alternative than to weaken the Terrorist outfit via militaristic methods for the safety of 19 million people in the country.
