Hesitation and Dilly Dallying wastes time , kills Soldiers and new problems raise their heads.

By Charles Perera

If you hold a killer at your pistol end, and hesitate without pulling the trigger, it may be, that you are the one who gets killed. Most of the time success depends on the ability to take the correct decision at the correct time without hesitation.. Some of our late soldiers may have learnt it in action, and did not live to tell the tale.

The government of Sri Lanka is hunting down ruthless terrorists to their holes, if the government is to win it should pull the trigger first, before the terrorists do it.. The terrorists in the run are like wounded animals, and a wounded animal, a hunter will tell you is the most dangerous. When you are in the hunt you must listen to noises, that betray the presence of the wounded animal, the hunter should not get distracted by sounds that come from else where, if not the wounded animal will pounce on the hunter and wound him or kill him.

To ban the terrorists or not to ban the terrorists, during the hesitation many soldiers die. The International Community, SLMM, UN, Amnesty International, Human Rights Commissions, FMM, Anti War Lobby, Pacha Jehan, LTTE lover Kumar, and even the aspiring objective essayist Thisaranee, they care little about a united independent Sri Lanka, the whole lot of them make noises , if the government gets distracted , by these noise makers, it may not win the war against terrorism. The government has to win the war against terrorists and hesitation will be a weakness to which it will pay dearly. Even the question of the de- merge of north east, hesitation is no solution , one has to take a decision to de-merge first and deal with any problems that may arise later. The hesitation , dilly dallying would be a weakness of the government which may help the terrorists.

Should the government take retaliatory action against terrorists or let democracy function ? The government in favour of democracy, without taking punitive measures against terrorists will be the loser, terrorism against democracy will in that case will gain ground.

If the government stops its military action against the terrorists merely to stop , the terrorist suspects imprisoned or detained demonstrate to show that violence is the only modus operandi, against an authoritarian state, again the government will be the looser the war against terrorism, is more important than, attempting to get favourable judgment of the outside distracters.

The government hesitate to ask Norwegian monitors to pack-up and to go home, and they continue to embarrass the government and are not a great help to the Sri Lanka government in its fight against terrorism.. There was a time when without the Norway Mediators, the Sri Lanka army was able to drive the terrorists away from Jaffna into the jungles of Wanni. Therefore, the government can do very well without the interfering Norwegian mediators.

The MoU with UNP will at the end be a disadvantage for the government to go ahead with a progressive programme of work. Now itself we see the signs of in the likes of S.B.Dissanayakes promising to form a UNP government next year. It does not forebode well for the government to have UNP as a partner. UNP has its own axe to grind, and may do every thing possible to make the government unpopular. Therefore, the government should be able to ask the UNP either to respect the MoU and, help the government to solve the problem with terrorism or withdraw from the MoU
