Jehan Perera should have said, that the
terrorists provoke the government, refusing to negotiate peace, leaving
the government with no alternative other than resorting to military
intervention.
By Charles Perera
Associated Press reports that, Jehan Perera of the National Peace Council,
an independent think tank, said the weakening of the monitoring team
would have little immediate effect because neither side was respecting
the truce.
"Both sides are violating the cease-fire in an open manner,"
he said.
Jehan Perera is the most sought after man for comments on the political
situation for Associated Press news reports. He is careful not to let
down his terrorists friends. He always draws a parallel between the
terrorists and the Government. For him the government is equally responsible
for terrorism. He does not pay attention to the governments call for
negotiations, and even the willingness of the President to see the terrorist
leader Prabhakaran in person. Jehan Perera is a dangerous news manipulator
who distorts the situation at home for foreign news papers. The people
like him should be stopped from commenting on political matters to foreign
reporters.
Ever since the signing of the infamous ceasefire, by a short sighted
Prime Minister, the terrorists had not stopped killing soldiers, politicians,
Army Official, Ministers, and innocent civilians, recruiting children
for their terrorist army. The army had stayed with their hands tied
by the governments demand to respect the CFA, while the terrorists had
a field day.
That had been going on for several years, and gradually the terrorists
began to be a greater menace, encouraged by the successive governments
-that of Ranil and Chandrika, trying to pacify the terrorists.
During that period too Jehan Perera played the same tune, drawing parity
between the Terrorists and the Government. At last the President-Mahinda
Rajapakse realised the necessity to assert the government’s
role of defending the country and protecting the people. Many lives
were sacrificed before the President-Mahinda Rajapakse took long overdue
corrective measures. And still Jehan Perera is playing the same old
tune.
What Jehan Perera should have said is perhaps that the terrorists are
continuously provoking the government and the army, and refusing to
negotiate peace. Therefore the government finds itself without an alternative
other than resorting to military invention. That is the truth neither
the private think tank of Jehan Perera, nor the International Community
seem to be able to understand.
