with a Modelling Duo

Professional models always innovates designs to fool and deceive the
masses and sell the products they have been hired to sponsor. They lack
originality but only design or present things on the behest of others
and to benefit others. Modelling profession apparently has proved to
pay much dividend in Sri Lanka, especially in politics. The Tuppahi
clan enslaved to luxurious living, urbanite night life, foreign culture,
and who desist all and everything that is native but only wants the
native whom theey call “Godayas” to keep them in the reins
of power was highly dejected and frustrated following the election of
the incumbent President and the collapse of all hopes they envisioned
about their resurgence recently due to the much publicised Rajayogaya
of their Don Juan. Once again they have reawakened and are day dreaming
with a modeling duo that the government will collapse with the formation
of an illegal segment of the SLFP, which the people have nicknamed as
the SLFP-Models Wing.
The Models duo, Mr. Mangala Samaraweera and Mr. Sripathy Suriachchi
skilfully enacted the crossover drama in the Parliament and comfortably
occupied, as prearranged, the chairs left vacant for them to sit by
Mano Ganeshan and another in the front row of the opposition benches.
The first to greet the chief Model was Sampanthan, the TNA Parliamentary
leader, the next would have been the Sinhala Balasingham but for him
attending a wedding in the Tamil Nadu capital Chennai was more important
than attending Parliament on that day, despite there were Supplementary
Bills and Voting to be taken up as per the Order Paper. What a funny
Leader of Opposition we have? Nevertheless, this void of welcoming the
crossed-overs after Sampanthan was filled by Matara District MP Sagala
Ratnayake who even had a Court Case in Matara charging the Models Wing
leader for attempted murder. Further, it is well known in Matara that
the same MP, has on the request of the Junk-UNP leader, rescinded his
due claim to the District Leadership post of the Party (despite being
the sole member of Parliament of the Junk-Group in the District) for
offering it to the Models-Wing leader at a convenient future date.
It is also an open secret now that the crowd suddenly assembled in the
Parliamentary premises to present themselves through the reactionary
media channels as a crowd arrived from Matara to greet Mr. Samaraweera
were in fact a crowd gathered from Colombo area by prominent Junk-UNP
personalities including Porivincial Council members and area organizers
under the sponsorship of Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake, at whose
residence Models Wing leader had several clandestine discussions prior
to his visit to meet ex-President Chandrika in the guise of attending
her daughters wedding.
Ravi Karunanayake sponsored crowd included a former Municipal Councillor
Aroos, Provincial Councillor Lakshman Abeygunesekera, Mariakade Organiser
Kithsiri, son of late UNP Thug Choppe, Duminda Silva, billed to be appointed
as a Colombo District Organisor and several other well known thugs who
are under the beck and call of the Junk-UNP leadership. There were no
crossroad or roadside banners in Matara supporting this crossover, as
it had been the tradition in the Matara City and its suburbs to prominently
display such banners on important events. The crossover was a total
non-event in Matara and the people came to know about it only through
the media.
However, the reactionary media, despite it being castigated as Media
Mafia by Mr. Samaraweera in the past, is giving superfluous publicity
and has unleashed a vain campaign to project the Master Model as the
Moses of Palestine, believing that the general masses are stupid and
have forgotten the names they used for the same person in the recent
past. The “Patthara Haamus” and “Patthara Nonas”
of the reactionary press project the crossover and the subsequent events
including the announcement of forming the segment now being nicknamed
as Models Wing as a significant political milestone of the country writing
gibberish in their rag sheets under banner headlines such as “a
great turning point”, “dropping a bombshell”, “Die
is Cast”, “Battle lines are Drawn” and so on.
These reactionary “Lekaka” gangs who crackle much about journalistic
ethics and press freedom, in their blind pursuit to please the Tuppahi
clan cover up the fact that Mr. Managala Samaraweera crossed over to
the LTTE-UNP nexus which may even include some members of the politically
arrogant JVP, not because of any love for the country, or not because
of any extremism in the government as he suddenly claims, or not because
of alleged coocked up charges. He was willing to be in the government
and serve as a Minister but for obvious reasons took the decisions against
it just because he was not given the much cherished magic portfolio
of Ports and Aviation.
President was truly magnanimous in offering him a Ministerial Portfolio
despite his vicious allegations against him and his family members,
including complaining to Human Rights Commission, that the President’s
brother was planning to kill him. If he was really interested to serve
the people who elected him the Irrigation Ministry offered to him was
the ideal Ministry to serve the agriculturally based Matara district
than Ports and Aviation which does not have even a single entity in
the District. Agriculture is the main vocation of the majority in the
District and the electorates of Deniyaya, Akuressa, Kamburupitiya, Hakmana
are fully agriculture based electorates and the remaining three, Weligama,
Matara and Devinuwara are agriculture and fisheries mixed electorates.
Was the reason that Mr. Samaraweera did not turn up for taking oaths
as the Minister of Agriculture due to aversion with the farming community
he may hold in the caste based political culture strongly prevalent
among some castes in the District?
In the worst scenario he could have followed the example set by a son
of Matara District, Mr. Dallas Alahapperuma, in the previous PA government
by resigning from his Deputy Minister portfolio and continuing to function
as a backbencher until the end of his elected term of office, to serve
the masses who elected him with the District’s highest number of
preferential votes in the 1994 election. How can such noble qualities
be expected from a person who is subjugated by vested interests and
has determined to uphold the interests of the hidden hands that command
the shots?
In a sheer justification to his joining hands with the reactionary-terrorist
nexus Mr. Samaraweera has formed a troika party (Mangala, Sripathy,
Tiran) illegally borrowing the SLFP name and earning the nickname as
SLFP-Models Wing. He has called a press conference and presented a document
which has nothing new other than plagiarized resubmission of periodical
criticism of the government and demands being made by the reactionary
elements, peace merchants, NGO vultures, and terrorist proxies. The
so-called ideas have been presented as a set of dreams without any concrete
proposals on how to realize these day dreams.
