Why Mynmar, does not open itself to the West ?

By Charles Perera

The intervention of the International Community in developing countries, up to now, has not been with the sincere intention of helping those countries, to develop according to the way they have decided with a system of government of their choice. The International Community hastens to introduce their system of democracy, accusing the governments of violation of human rights and probing into the working of the governments accusing them of corruption, seeking out the opposition parties to the government with the ulterior intention of developing pro-western groups.

The International Community does not accept the existing situation of a country without criticising the government in place be it a democratic government or a military government. They create discord, and send in NGOs who infiltrate into the rural areas and win over the people, and put them against the government, while others convert the rural people to their religion. They survey pleasant picturesque areas to organise holiday resorts and settlements for westerners. These activities corrupt the people, making them accept false values in place of their own cultural and religious values.

We see this happening in Sri Lanka. We were witness to how the so called human rights activists were bent on accusing the government of violation of human rights, and wanted a UN monitoring mission set up in Sri Lanka, with the ulterior motive of helping the terrorists facing a difficult situation due to military action against them.

The Myanmar Government is aware of this insincerity of Western motives, and would not open itself to their influence. The West wants to break up governments putting one group against the other. USA did that very well with the CIA, in many countries. It is well known how USA with its CIA funded the media, politicians and other organisation in Chile against the government set up by Salvador Allende, and broke up Allende's Socialist Government in Chile. They tried that again in China, by organising the students against the government. In Cuba too the CIA recruited and trained the Cuban refugees in USA in its infamous attack of Bay of Pigs.

What is the guarantee that USA is not trying to do the same thing with Mynmar ?

It is time that the International Community change its political tactics of destabilising governments, and adopt another means to instil confidence in it , through dialogue accepting whatever system of government is in place. The International Community should help these countries to develop without having an agenda of its own. It should show generosity and willingness to help, and assist in the development and progress of these countries. Then the developing countries will willingly accept the help and Assistance of the International Community. The International Community should extend direct help both financial and technical to the governments without bringing in Non-Governmental Organisations.

NGO's have created lot of damage to developing countries, than the aid they offer. Therefore it is time to evaluate their further use in developing countries. The Governments should have a control over the NGOs and their aid and assistance should be managed by the governments.
