Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, should withdraw his statement, or else he morally commits UNESCO to accepts terrorism in the world.
By Charles S.Perera
As a former staff member of UNESCO, I was completely taken by surprise at the most unacceptable statement made by Mr.Koichiro Matsuura, the Director General of UNESCO, on the destruction by bombardment of the Voice of Terrorits' broad casting station, in the retaliatory actions against the terrorist, by the Armed forces of Sri Lanka .
There is no doubt of a concerted effort that is going on, with the connivance of the International Community, to discredit the Government of the President Mahinda Rajapakse. The statements made recently by numerous Human Rights activist, and the UN Human Rights Commission, and now the uncalled for statement of the Director of UNESO, make it evident that the anti- Sri Lanka Government, and pro Terrorist movements have taken into their fold the UN System to make their agitations against Sri Lanka Government more credible and forceful.
Mr.Koichiro Matsuura, undoubtedly had merely read out a statement presented to him by his speech writers, who belong to one or the other of a country belonging to the International Community. It had been pointed out in articles in the Lanka Web, that, though the Organisations of the UN System are constitutionally required to express noble sentiments, the some of the staff of these Organizations consist of individuals with their petty personal biases and prejudices, and they give went to their personal feelings, distancing themselves from the noble cause they are expected to uphold.
The Director General of UNESCO had not apparently examined the contents of the report before he made it public, or it is also possible that it was his Office that issued it without even consulting the Director General. Otherwise, to say that military strikes on the broadcasting station of the terrorists, contravenes the Geneva Convention is the height of imbecility to tell the least.
This is possible, as it was recently that a very senior executive officer from America, in the UNESCO, issued contracts to a Construction Company of his choice without following tender procedures, or consulting the Executive Committee. He was sacked after the external audits reported the findings to the Director General.
The condemnation of the Government, which is fighting against a ruthless set of home made terrorists, who with facilities provided by a sentimentally blinded Tamil diaspora have, not only broadcasting facilities, but also planes to extend their terrorism through aerial bombardments, shows a certain lack of knowledge of world affairs by Mr. Matsuura who holds the respected position of the Director of the UNESCO.
The Director General of UNESCO, Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, should withdraw his statement not only because it is the most appropriate thing to do, but also because by his statement he accepts terrorism in all its form, which the UN System should condone. |
