Each year when October approaches I feel mesmerized by Norway as would pretty Salome’s */Dance of the Seven Veils/.* It is a positive feeling towards a country which announces the cream-de-la-cream of Nobel Laureates around the world. I, in particular, look forward to finding out who had been identified as the Nobel Laureate for Literature and the Nobel Laureate for Peace that particular year.

That was Norway at its first blush. But my sense of intrigue of Norway changes when she discards her veils one by one, and when the seventh veil comes off, there she is naked to the core, not so pretty, uncouth, hiding her double tongue, dabbling in international politics and trying to tell the world, “Hey, we spread the gospel of PEACE around the world, like in Sri Lanka, and we spend millions of kroner of our tax payers money to achieve this”. But it is not so in my eyes and Norway cannot cheat me.

Norway certainly has a dubious role as a Peace facilitator in Sri Lanka, when she has been caught red-handed helping the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE aka Tamil Tigers) by providing funds, and training them in military warfare to destabilize that island nation. The Tamil Tigers are like a Banyan Tree of Terrorism with its root firm and widely spread as far as into Norway. You cannot kill this Tree of Terrorism by watering its roots with funds to flourish by letting Norway’s new Tamil immigrants collect funds and her government providing millions of kroner for the Tamil Tigers to procure arms to fight for their mythical separate state, Eelam; and also supplying them with technical aid like the six-tons of electric equipment, including V-Sat equipment used in satellite communications brought into the island in 2002 as Norway’s diplomatic cargo. So to pretend that Norway is a peace promoter is a sham and the country is suspect.

It is no good to tell the world, “Look, we are killing that Banyan Tree of Tamil Tiger Terrorism; the leaves are dead and falling”. But what the entire world sees is another new leaf sprouting having had the tree nourished at the roots with Norwegian funds.

In my eyes, if Norway wishes to clean up her act and revert her role as a honest, neutral Nordic country who is promoting the gospel of PEACE around the world, and dissect her conspiracy theory, especially in Sri Lanka, out of her system, then remove Eric Solheim, Norway’s Minister who has been delegated to do the job who is also a very good friend of the Tamil Tigers, and pull out from the business of being Peace Monitors in that island, as the Heads of this Mission have been caught red-handed several times in supporting and guiding the Tamil Tigers. This is no news as the Norwegian government has been told so by the Sri Lankan government with good reason.

Stop lying to me. Stop lying to the World that Norway is the international Goody-two-shoes spreading the gospel of PEACE, and throwing a helping hand at countries that are in trouble to achieve that PEACE. Stop watering the Banyan Tree of Terrorism with your riches. Stop your double-standards and double speak. Give me back the Norway that I once knew of – a beautiful Nordic country, honest and neutral. Give me the break that I am searching for – Norway is no humbug, but the Nobel Laureates producing country who is keeping an eye on high achievers of all walks life around the world, in chemistry, physics, economics, literature and peace, et cetera. That act in itself is promoting PEACE around the world, and you need not dabble in international politics which you are not so good at. Norway should cover her shame of being a humbug by putting back her seven veils and mesmerize me once again with her */Dance of the Seven Veils /*of Honesty and Neutrality.
