Liberal Party Members of Parliament Support to TerroristsIra de Silva London, Ontario, CanadaHon. Stephane Dion, P.C., M.P. Mr. Michael Ignatieff, M.P. Gentleman: In case you have missed the news item, on November 5th Liberal Party Members of Parliament in the Toronto area attended and spoke at what was termed a "vigil", "commemoration" for a Tamil terrorist leader who was killed in Sri Lanka on Nov. 2,2007. The question I have for you, as I have already posed to some of those attending this event, is it legal for Canadians to attend events glorifying terrorists? Those who attended were Jim Karygiannis, a long time friend and supporter of Tamil terrorists. He even went so far as to issue a statement that he was greatly distressed at the news that Thamilselvam, the second in command of the LTTE, had died. He also addressed the meeting as did Borys Wrzesnewskyj, a newcomer to the Tamil bandwagon whose knowledge of Sri Lanka is minimal but will say what it takes to get votes. Derek Lee, John McKay, Mark Holland, Yasmin Ratansi, Lui Temelkovski and Maria Minna by their presence, showed their "solidarity" with the terrorist supporters. News reports do not make any mention of M.P.'s of other political parties attending. What does that indicate to you? To the general public it indicates the following: - The Liberal Party has no principles or ethics, they will do anything
to get a few votes. Newcomer Borys Wrzesnewskyj condemned the assassination of S.P.Thamnilselvan and said that Sri Lanka sank to the lowest level by assassinating a peace negotiator which will have far reaching consequences for Sri Lanka. What he did not realise was that by his actions it was the Liberal Party that sank to the lowest level, not Sri Lanka, because Sri Lankans knew Thamilselvam for the cold blooded, ruthless killer he was. Had your members followed events in Sri Lanka they would have known that Thamilselvam had made it clear to the Norwegian ambassador when they last met this year that he was not interested in peace but that economic and military targets in Sri Lanka would be targeted by the LTTE. True to his word, an air force base in Sri Lanka was attacked by suicide bombers shortly before November 2nd.. Was Borys Wrzesnewskyj merely displaying his ignorance by this statement? If he represents the thinking of the Liberal party, it is a disgrace. For your information, Thamilselvam was not for peace. Supporters of the LTTE in Canada and your Liberal members of parliament are trying to say he was a peace negotiator. In fact he was a ruthless military planner and fighter. Even Prabhakaran, the leader of the LTTE in his farewell speech claims that he raised Tamilselvan as a great commander. That is how he became the second in command of the LTTE, not because he was a peace activist. That is also why he was posthumously made a "brigadier" by the LTTE. As one writer who saw him in his supposedly peace negotiator role commented - no baby face but a killer with a smile that never vanished; killed many friends and foes with the same permanent grin. A terrorist who walked to the negotiation table well groomed in coat and tie picked on the streets of Oslo; carrying a walking stick not for sartorial elegance but for a physical infirmity". It has even been claimed that he was mainly instrumental for sabotaging the peace process. Karygiannis did not have the intelligence to see beyond the mask and was either ignorant of Thamailselvam's terrorist past or chose to ignore it because he is unprincipled.. As for Wrzesnewskj, he was displaying his ignorance. Finally, I refer you to the editorial in the Globe and Mail of today which asks "what were those M.P.'s thinking" - I say they are not thinking. The editorial in the National Post addresses the issue calling it the "Liberal's LTTE Disgrace". I am not alone in questioning the policies, ethics, direction and leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. Yours truly, Ira de Silva
