To Resolve Sri Lanka's political crisis - dissolve Ranil

LA PEIRIS

The Prime Minister should summon Parliament sometime to discuss the LTTE air attack in the early hours of March 26. The LTTE now possesses the capability to select a target anywhere in the country — access it by air — unopposed, and destroy it. The Hindu newspaper and others have all spoken and written columns about the alarming dimension and threats. But unfortunately none have or can solve this problem.

Ranil, where were your grave concerns when as Prime Minister you signed a Cease Fire Agreement with a pathological murderer without the consent of the President or referendum from the Sri Lankan public. Your allowed a group of cyanide neck laced suicide bombing terrorist vermin

to equate the GOSL to a band of terrorist vermin

  • To grab hold and keep certain areas of Sri Lanka as their fathers domain.
  • To hold Sri Lankan Tamil people under death threats and violence in the north and east.
  • To abduct, conscript and hold underage children by force and use them as cannon fodder.
  • To get GOSL administrators in these areas to take orders from LTTE illiterates.
  • To hold Sri Lankans (Tamils, Muslims, Sinhala) as captive and hostages in their own land
  • To levy taxes on transportation and goods on the A9 route, to fatten LTTE purses
  • Privileges - letting INGO/NGO funds to build peace secretariat and other facilities
  • Access to the supply of material that has been used in building airstrips and military facilities
  • Get container loads of goods and materials from abroad without thorough checks at customs
  • Trips abroad for unsuccessful and useless peace talks
  • Access to foreign diplomats and use their services.
  • Passports and permitted families of terrorists to seek sanctuary abroad.

'So far there has not been a single admission of responsibility from anyone in authority — from the Minister of Defence to the Air Force Commander — for this gross dereliction of public duty'. ( speech in Sri Lanka's Parliament on April 3, 2007 by Ranil Wickremesingh)

'It makes nonsense of the government's claims of defending the integrity of our country and protecting its people — the primary duty of any government of Sri Lanka'. ( speech in Sri Lanka's Parliament on April 3, 2007 by Ranil Wickremesingh)

' The Defence Secretary, who several weeks back claimed that he was responsible for the security of the Katunayake Airport, is silent today. In any other country, a senior politician, officials and military officers would have lost their posts. In Sri Lanka, a few unfortunate airmen lost their lives due to `friendly fire.' . ( speech in Sri Lanka's Parliament on April 3, 2007 by Ranil Wickremesingh)
'The government has lost the support of the international community. We are being treated like a beyond-the-pale nation because the government has failed to protect its people'.( ( speech in Sri Lanka's Parliament on April 3, 2007 by Ranil Wickremesingh)

Ranil, where was your admission of responsibility for the gross dereliction of public duties? Where was your integrity to our country and protecting its people — was it not the primary duty of the UNP government of Sri Lanka at the time? A few unfortunate airmen lost their lives due to `friendly fire', how many armed forces personnel and civilians have lost their lives after you signed your CFA. In another country you would have been shot for treason. Ranil, it is because of spineless leaders like you that the international community has taken us to be a beyond-the-pale nation because you have failed to protect its people by annihilating the LTTE.

This conflict has been there for over 25 years and this complex question, can never be resolved through a politically negotiated settlement. Sinhala, Muslim, or Burgher and majority of Tamils—accept that the territorial integrity of the country must be safeguarded. However the LTTE terrorists, their supporters and federalists do not accept this. They want a separate state of Eelam or a federal state of Eelam with self-governing status. What democracy will the North have under the dictator Prabhakaran?

Ranil be realistic, is Prabhakan and his murderous honchos going to lay down their arms under any settlement terms? An idiot like you may give them clemency for their crimes, as you have not lost a father, mother, sister or brother to their murderous activities. These vermin will not survive in a democratic environment, they will be destroyed not by the Sinhala but by the Tamil people who have suffered years of torment and have lost their loved ones. Will these vermin give up their life of power, riches they never dreamt of, to a life of solitary confinement in jails. Or are you going to arrange for their safe passage to Norway!

Mahinda, must not allow the international community to dictate matters on how to address the conflict instead he should tell them to get the LTTE to lay down the weapons. He should tell them that until and unless the LTTE lay down weapons the GOSL reserves the right to use its armed forces in fighting terrorism in safeguarding the people of Sri Lanka and its integrity.
