Deepak Obhrai on Sri Lanka

Sir:

“Obhrai Urges Talks with Tigers” you reported, as Canada’s Foreign Affair Parliamentary Secretary Deepak Obhrai had urged Sri Lanka’s government Minister G.L.Peries to do so during their recent meeting in Ottawa.

I am stymied by this Canadian logic, while we have deployed over 2000 of our troops to go after the Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan and annihilate them, and to ask Sri Lanka to negotiate with the Mother of all terrorists, the Tamil Tigers, does not make sense. The world is trying to get rid of terrorism, and so it should be and the Tamil Tigers should be included in that menu.

If Obhrai’s Canadian thesis is that the Tamil Tigers are entirely a problem for the Sri Lankan State and not affecting the international community, and thus should talk peace with them, then Canada is dead wrong.

If al-Qaeda is resented by all liberal democracies and viewed as the number one terror group to civilized living, then Tamil Tigers ought to be branded the same as the Tamil Tigers and al-Qaeda work in tandem and their link has now been revealed with the Tamil Tigers having sold stolen Norwegian passports to the al-Qaeda, the key enemy of the civilized world. This crime would enable the Tamil Tigers and the co-conspirators al-Qaeda terrorists to infiltrate state borders willy-nilly and commit crimes of the most heinous nature.

The Tamil Tigers perfected the art of human suicide bombing by perfecting the body pack which is now used for copy cat suicide bombings all around the world. They trained the Maoists in Nepal for this act and to talk peace with these brutal terrorists and refusing to talk with the Talibans and al-Qaeda defies logic.

Sri Lanka’s The Sunday Times of July 8 reported, “In the case of a freezer truck with over 1,000 killogrammes of explosives in Trincomalee on June 29, the LTTE (Tamil Tigers) handler in Canada gave telephone calls to local operatives carrying mobile phones.” O! Sweet joy!! So Canada is part of Tamil Tiger terrorism that keeps blowing innocent civilians to smithereens with claymore mines and bombs.

Watch out Canada. Those who sponsor terrorism or being whimpish about it must remember one thing; it will come back home to roost sooner or later. Delays to act against the Mother of all terrorism, the Tamil Tigers, could prove most costly for Canada.
