We sympathise with Ranil Wickramasinghe, and wish him speedy recovery.
Our best wishes to Defence Secretary and the Security Forces in whom we place our trust.

By Charles Perera

Ranil Wickramasinghe knows that there area number of people who are prepared to suffer any ignominy to accept him as the leader of the once respected UNP. They are people who have been hypnotised by the UNP for what it had been under the leadership of DS and Dudley Senanayakes, JR Jayawadhana, and Premadasa . They know that Ranil is far from what they expect of a leader of the UNP, yet they are blinded by the faith they have for the old party.

Ranil Wickramasinghe still thinks that he could be the President of Sri Lanka. The idea has become an obsession in him, and the obsession has made him a psychologically imbalanced person. If he is already not suffering from neurosis, he will soon be unless he is taken care of by a specialist in that field..

Ranil Wickramasinghe a senior political leader, who had a good education, and a good bringing up cannot be expected to make quite illogical statements, concerning persons in responsible places who are doing their work exceptionally well in the present serious predicament the government and the people of Sri Lanka are facing, unless he is mentally deranged.

Gotabhaya Rajapakse along with the Security Forces lead by Sarath Fonseka are making an invaluable effort in a difficult war against the LTTE terrorists, who have been made a power to be reckoned with due to many serious errors committed by Ranil Wickramasinghe himself.

If it is considered that Gotabhaya Rajapakse is not performing his duties well enough as the Defence Secretary, it is for the President to decide to withdraw him and replace him with another suitable person. Ranil Wickramasinghe as the leader of the opposition has no right to propose removal of the Secretary of Defence and propose the name of another person to be appointed in his place. This goes with the adage, “ the donkey trying to do the work of the dog”.

If Ranil Wickramasinghe has a semblance of a leader of the UNP, he should first stop his undignified statements about the President and his government, and control the “brayings” of his ridiculous followers, Kiriella, Nanaykkara and Attanayake. The President of Sri Lanka is elected by the people, according to a democratic system and that cannot be done on a given date and a time predicted by an astrologist.

Ranil Wickrmasinghe should try to act in keeping with the dignity of his office of the Leader of the Opposition, and the Leader of the UNP -despite its fall from grace after a number of respectable members of the party left to help the President of Sri Lanka and his government.

We sympathise with Ranil Wickramasinghe, and send him our good wishes for his speedy recovery.
