LTTE cannot be defeated militarily. Stop futile military operations
and start negotiations immediately. Uphold the CFA. Military operations
are ruining the economy, and heaping hardships on the poor. Tamils in
their thousands are being displaced and driven out from their habitations.
Tamil children are unable to attend schools. Innocent civilians are
being massacred. Displaced persons are suffering severely without shelter,
food and medicine. All claims of victory are bogus and pre-arranged
manifestations. Human rights are wilfully violated. These are some of
the vicious and conflicting slogans and demands continuously reeled
by the terrorist proxies, treacherous politicos, Media poodles, loony
leftists, NGO vultures, International coolies, and the Embassy Mafia
to undermine, and halt the military operations and accord a respite
to the terrorists since the day the March from Mawilaru to Toppigala
was launched by our Defense establishment. Our forces accomplished the
great task by capturing the whole of East displaying their prowess against
all odds and countless impediments. The whole nation sans the treacherous
gangs pompously salutes our great heroes on this great triumph.
The fall of East, covering a total of 5200 sq. km, is a decisive defeat
to the Fascist Terrorists as it was the main revenue base of their elusive
Eelam with Trincomalee to be its capital. Despite attempts by some treacherous
elements to describe it as a waste land, to belittle the significance
of the victory, it was the rice bowl of the terrorists with forced acquisition
of several thousand acres of paddy land, the terrain for several training
camps, felling illicit timber and cultivation of cannabis, the ready
source for forced recruitment, avenue for extortions, and the long coastal
stretch for providing ideal ground for arms smuggling.
The media poodles beholden to protect and promote the terrorists made
a concerted effort to discourage and demoralize the forces as well as
to embarrass and revile the government throughout the operation by attempting
to create rifts in the forces, generate a fear psychosis about inevitable
retaliatory bombings in Colombo, exaggerate and distort the Internally
Displaced Persons issue, and alleged human rights violations. Some poodles
working for reactionary rag sheets even sought the assistance of foreign
agents to comment adversely and ridicule the operation. The Bias Broadcasting
Corporations Sandeshaya demanded in March that heavy artillery and rocket
attacks on LTTE camps should be stopped since the thunder like noise
was disturbing patients in the Karadiyanaru and Batticaloa hospitals
and children learning in the schools.
A local rag sheet daily warned in April, that the operation was creating
an atmosphere for the terrorists to send suicide bombers to Colombo.
Despite it being the aspiration of the patriotic and peace loving masses
to defeat terrorism, this rag sheet catering for the Thuppahi clan questioned
as to how long the people should suffer until the government attempts
to achieve its goal of wiping out the LTTE from the East? Only the patriotic
Websites and the Island and Divayina, stood with the heroic security
forces and countered the pro-terrorist propaganda onslaught. The Indian
daily “The Hindu”? also made some valid contributions at certain
times.
The fall of East has become a non event for TamilNet, and Hindustan
Times pro-terrorist Balachandran. The terrorist mouthpiece of SunTV
too completely blacked out the event. The notorious Bias Broadcasting
Corporation in its Website has made a scathing reference about the victory
attributing the ownership of the story to a military spokesman and claims
at the same time that “The Tigers still control large parts of
northern Sri Lanka, where they run a de facto State”?. It shows
how far the victory has offended this so-called guardians of media freedom.
Further employing its mastery of distorting information, it says that
the “rebels”(not the terrorists) in their stronghold at Kilinochchi
admitted “the army was now dominant in the east”(only dominant
not holding the East) ?, and quoting terrorist Rasiah Ilanthirayan pose
the question “whether the army will be able to stay in the East
peacefully? ”
In the East liberation march which started with the Mawilaru encounter
last August, the security forces encountered many obstacles, in a mined
and booby trapped terrain. Their great victory achieved with minimum
casualty, while according protection to civilians and taking simultaneous
action to resettle the displaced and looking after the humanitarian
needs of the liberated population in the midst of enemy threats will
become a role model for forces fighting terrorists. It is pertinent
to point out that it was while this operation was underway that a treacherous
politician deriding the ability of our forces questioned how can our
forces achieve something that the world’s powerful army, the United
States army has failed to achieve in Iraq.
Despite being members of the oldest political party in the country
the behaviour and sayings of the UNP, which has now become a Junk-political
party, on the performance of our security forces during this operation
were highly deplorable and nauseating. It used every opportunity to
criticize the operation, devalue it, and demoralise the security forces.
It only attempted to gain political mileage from the operation, without
a scant respect to the hardships encountered by the security forces,
and the great chain of achievements being made by them in an extremely
dangerous extensively mined and booby trapped terrain. They even ridiculed
liberation of terrorist occupied areas claiming they are manifestations
of prearranged episodes and gave much importance to castigate the temporary
displacements of civilians as forcible expulsions and gross violations
of human rights.
Even at the last moment the Junk-UNP failed to appreciate the great
victory. Speaking at a propaganda rally in Galle, the leader of the
Junk-UNP, who has got crowned as the International Spokesman of the
terrorist outfit, questioned what was the greatness of capturing Toppigala?.
He said it is a forest area and asked what has it to offer. It is really
shameful to find an individual who claims to be the Leader of Opposition
of the country belittling a remarkable victory gained by the security
forces in culmination of a 9 month long operation liberating thousands
of people who were under terrorist oppression, capturing many enemy
camps together with arms and ammunition and causing heavy losses to
the enemy forces.
The government and the security forces, snubbing all bullying by vested
interests and disregarding the baseless and provocative criticism should
make every effort to consolidate the victory achieved. At the same time
the government should hold early elections for all local government
bodies in the East and expedite the launch of all projects planned for
the development of the Eastern province.
