The JVP are getting Totally Carried Away In Threatening The Government

©Insight By Sunil Kumara For LankaWeb ~Tuesday, December 11,2007

When The JVP called on the people and the working class in particular, to be prepared for a general election by next April to replace the Mahinda Rajapaksa government which it claimed was one of the most corrupt and inefficient administrations in the country’s history they seem to have been totally carried away by whatever it is that is motivating what tantamounts to idle threats!

As is the case of most second fiddle political parties especially in Sri Lanka when initial rosy seeming alliances turn sour and the main adminstration does not palaver to their needs their slogans turn awry and anti governmental and prompts them to stoop way beyond their original code of ethics which once saw favour in the eyes of many discerning but now seem to be running the risk of fading in popularity.

This could easily be augmented if they suddenly form an alliance with the UNP to acheive their objectives of toppling the Government which the people of Sri Lanka must never let happen as they should in such a scenario view the JVP as betrayers of a valuable alliance who are prepared to hedge on their commitments to the Nation in a more realistic sense than their current rhetoric and anti Rajapaksha sentiments as they too seem to have caught a whiff of posible power at any cost which one must remember was the undoing of the previous UNP regime!

Perhaps the JVP have been overrated for a long time as imagined kingmakers in the coalition which has sustained the Rajapaksha Administration and it is about time there were more astute supporters for the present Administration in a political capacity from sources other than the JVP strong enough to repudiate the ambitions of the JVP who seem to have forgotten their idealogies as a left leaning party and seems to be ready to stoop to any level in a misconceived bid to regain control of the Sri Lankan Administration with an unlikely bedmate the UNP who have had their chances many times over and squandered it while almost betraying the Nation to its enemies!

They should be discouraged from any ambition to topple the Rajapaksha Administration under which Sri Lanka has recovered past transgressions admirably more than one could have ever imagined given the circumstances of its inception when the Nation was in a real shambles and being ravaged by both the crooks of the UNP as well as the attrocities of the LTTE.

Sri Lanka under the direction of Mahinda Rajapaksha seems poised for great economic growth and most importantly on the verge of eliminating the Tamil Tiger threat as the biggest stumbling block to the Nation's posterity and in this sense the JVP appear to be a myopic and blinkered lot who need to re -assess their big sounding small talk about toppling the Government in April as it could easily backfire on them and throw their organization into a tailspin considering the popularity of the Rajapaksha Administration with the common man!

They should be contrite about trying to commit a grievous error which would be terribly detrimental to the Nation if they ever succeed in their motivations to this effect and be supportive of the Rajapaksha Administration and its Armed Forces in so doing rather than lowering themselves to the level of the UNP who seem to be baiting them to join their cause towards bringing down the Rajapaksha Administration which given all the statistics relative to their popularity and acheivements on a prioritised basis should never transpire logically!

The latest address of the 10th annual convention of the ‘Lanka Postal Services Union’ (LPSU) at Pradeepa Hall in Maligawatte where JVP trade union leader and Parliamentarian K.D. Lalkantha has 'charged' that the Rajapaksa government was using the war to cover up its inefficiency, corruption, mismanagement and oppressive policies, seems laced with the anti government propaganda the UNP and Ranil Wickremasinghe are usually better known for and if the JVP or any of its supportives use the terms corruption, inefficiency and mismanagement in any governmental capacity surely it seems a fact of life that these were the very shortcomings of the previous regime which brought down their downfall and a far cry from what the Rajapaksha administration has accomplished in very trying times with a great measure of success today all things considered!

It has to be borne in mind that it was the entire UNP political hierarchy and the top officialdom previous to the present Administration which were laced with corruption and mismanagement where its head honcho hardly batted an eyelid to contain them.

As far as allegations by organizations such as COPE reporting billions of rupees being lost due to financial irregularities at government establishments such reports crop up constantly with hardly a modicum of sustainable and tandible evidence which cannot realistically be upheld in a court of law and perhaps better applied to the UNP regime and the forays into the Nations coffers by wanton minister some of whom were noted for their lavish lifestyles, overseas jaunts and the construction of palatial residences while galavanting in luxury vehicles while the poor of the Nation starved!

There was a time when the JVP stood up for this kind of thing relative to the integrities involved but sadly seems no longer as the tainted past of the UNP is forgotten and it seems in vogue to villify the present Administration accused by the COPE report for misappropriations ~ mostly speculative innuendo sans real proof while turning on them in collaboration with the UNP as it appears!

It seems amusing that the call for "the country to find a clean, true and trustworthy political leader to handover the country to after the next general election.” seems famous last words of previous opponents to incumbent administrations where the slogan was much more applicable then and the need for it at the present time more ludicrous than acceptable at the present! This also applies to the call for a constitutional change by the UNP leader who sounds desperate and clutching at straws!

There seems to be more of a trade union fervour in the laments of the JVP which is also feebly audible and quite appropriately so in terms of apples and oranges! In the best interests of the Nation when the government asks not to launch strikes or any other trade union actions to win demands of the working class as the government is engaged in a war against the LTTE it is a legitimate request which cannot be interpreted with a bull in a china shop mentality by some cockamanie trade unionist leader whether he be JVP supportive or not! Perhaps his trade Unionist grievances by no means a priority could be taken up when the Nation is redeemed of all its oppressions including the terrorist menace linked to which the economy is bound to improve! and the "Hello Trade Unions!" call is bound to be heard!

Slogans such as "The corruption, financial mismanagement and inefficiency have been institutionalised under the Rajapaksa administration.'' seem to have a hollow ring to it typical of any trade union that has waged a war of attrition against administrations of the past and will continue regardless of their veracity and probably need to be toned down to accommodate reality.

To say that the main topic in the country is corruption and inefficiency but nobody could stop it or prevent it,” seems the opinion of a bifurcated trade unionist who would never be content even if his myopic vision was totally improved to envision the reality that the present Administration has done more good than any previous in recent history and towards acceptin this as a reality he should look at how the Sinhala Nation is presently very systematically being rid of the vermin LTTE which should be a cause for being thankful rather than bickering ungraciously using a pack of moribund accusations towards justifying them!

Indeed the Nation has been overwhelmed with high inflation, an astronomical cost of living and near impossible conditions mostly brought about by previous administrations and the ravages of an internal armed insurrection all of which the present administration has been trying to cope with admirably albeit at times under great pressure from external as well as internal interferences and those who continue to complicate the Government's efforts to overcome the oppressions and hardships faced by the Nation by further compounding them through rhetoric as vain attempts to bring down the Goverment and work towards this misconceived notion are no more than a bunch of unpatriotic traitors mostly interested in their personal agendas and should hang their heads in shame rather than calling themselves patriotic Sri Lankans!

This seems very applicable to the once nation friendly organization calling themselves the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) or the People's Liberation Front who seem to be attempting to liberate Sri Lanka's enemies from their own bondages rather than being supportive of the present Administration!
