Sri Lankan Authorities should stop their submissive attitude to the Westerners, tighten security measures, and apply them without exception to natives, white or non-white foreigners.

By Charles Perera

I wrote in these pages some time back that Sri Lanka is inundated with NGOs ,as no other country in the world. There were two other articles on the subject by Mallika Wanigasundara, and Sunil Jayalath.

The dangers of some of their presence in Sri Lanka are evident from the revelation of the case of ZOA Refugee Care having secretly provided aid to LTTE terrorists, and the interfering Berghoff Foundation asking for diplomatic status for their NGOs. The aim of the NGOs is not solely to provide tsunami aid or humanitarian services, but, as agents for destabilizing developing countries and keep them poor and dependent on a world leadership of White Nations.

It is high time that some one looks into the activities of the NGOs and reduce the numbers to a manageable few. The developing countries always had foreign do gooders interfering into social existence whether as, missionaries , peace workers, instructors in welfare and family planning, and now as NGO’s. Though the Western World dislike us they cannot do without us, as in their own countries the living conditions are different, the cost of living is very high. Every thing is costly medical services though good and up to date the medical costs are very high, food, dress and housing take a good chunk of their earning, and are more often beyond the reach of some section of their population. People are subjected to high taxes and only the rich could maintain a satisfactory living standard..

But with a fraction of what they spend in their home countries, they can draw far greater benefits and advantages, and live an exceedingly well, in the developing countries. In the West where the social contacts are reduced to small circles of friends , relatives or professional acquaintances, the developing countries for them are fairy lands. Our hospitality, open armed welcome, respectful, and submissive ways, broad smiles and soft words make them feel they are masters of the environment, and the natives are there to serve them.

Our attitude to the Westerners are such that every door is open to them, without security checks or questions asked. Sunil Jayalath wrote about a group of NGOs who has made its quarters inside the Naval Head Quarters in Colombo 1, and that there are number of other Westerners who have nothing to do there, who come in and go out as they please, carrying all sorts of bags, without any security check, but with a simple smile and a wave of the hand to the security guards. That is going a little too far with our famed hospitality in the prevailing situation of the country. This in fact shows the prevailing submissive attitude of the Sri Lankan Authorities to the Westerners.

This may be how the ZOA workers had infiltrated into terrorist camps, with a wave and a smile at our security men guarding the areas. The government should issue instructions to the security forces that they should check without exception every persons whether white, black, or blue in restricted areas or any place where security measures are in force.
