Defence Secy's Timely InterviewSisira Pereira PanaduraToday the Sri Lankans witness how the double standards of the Western forces are being applied on Sri Lanka, more than ever before. Recently it was reported that Diplomatic missions in Colombo have warned to the effect that the Military men and women would not be granted Visas, based on the Human Rights records. And, would they also threaten likewise the US and UK armed forces in Iraq? That would be really interesting to see. And then the British Deputy Foreign Minister came forth and asked the SL government to stop the military campaign aganist the LTTE terrorists, while keeping a blind eye to the keeping of their own Military in Iraq (because he says that he believes that the military campaign would not materialize...!!! wonder why he doesn't also go ahead and tell his beliefs to the British Parliamnet as regard to the Iraq situation..or is he believeing that it would succeed??). In the background, So-called Human Rights Groups are mushrooming all of a sudden and starting to find fault with the SL government for human rights abuses, while making sure that they keep their voices shut about the gruesome killings and human rights violations over a period of about 30 years, by the ruthless terrorist out fit, the LTTE. Amidst all these, the peace mongers handsomely paid by the hideous international agencies are busying themselves to create ripples of agitation calling on the Government to talk to the LTTE, when the LTTE is going on a spree of killing without even having a milisecond of thought about a peaceful, negotiated settlement. The Sri Lankan defence forces have whacked the LTTE strongholds
in the East and are much closer to pin them down in their key stronghold
in Wanni and thus, the LTTE sympathisers all around the world, undoubtedly
hurt by this humilliating annhilation they thought was impossible, are
becoming jittery about the projected future of the LTTE. And thus, they
are campaigning heavily behind the guise of a freedom struggle where
the so-called state terror is denying them the chance, while their own
idols in wanni keeps merry doing all what the civilized community would
despise. And the international powers with vested interested in Sri
Lanka are tacitly coming forward to save the dwindling LTTE from the
"painted state terror scenario". And it is mind boggling to
see how they would miss altogether the callous genocides, use of human
shields and gross human rights abuses, not for a brief period of time,
but for more than two and half decades since it began. Amidst all this, the Defence Secy's timely comments to International media about the international double standards towards Sri Lanka comes in the nick of time and all patriots of Sri Lanka should put their hands together for Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksha for speaking, not only his mind, but probably the minds of all true patriots without hesitation. The mere fact that the main opposition UNP is "voicing" their concerns against Mr. Gotabhaya's interview, is evidence to the fact that how these unpatriotic forces in our society are hell bent on removing the current military leadership from doing their rightful job for the country. If these western boot-licking forces realize their betrayal
approach and mistakes and instead rally around someone who is not afraid
to speak his mind over the double standards of the so-called international
community, the world will realize that Sri Lanka is united in the war
against terrorism. Unfortunately for the country, what is happening
now is the sheer power-hungry struggle by the opportunistic forces that
cow-tow to the whims and fancies of the pro-LTTE forces and tacitly
join hands with them to degrade the dignity of Sri Lanka. The UNP is
doing all the dirty work that the LTTE representatives would do to tarnish
the Sri Lankan state's ever rightful military campaign to crush the
LTTE terrorism. and they have now gone further ahead and asking what
rights the defence secy has got to give such an interview to the International
media!!! Well, the bottom line is that, the Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksha
has spoken his mind..And what he has said so boldly and clearly may
not have been said by a head of state, because he/she is bound by the
politics revolving around the position... Yet, the defence secy's bold comments, whether he is just
a bereaucrat or otherwise as UNP so angrily points out in reaction to
his speaking the truth, would be shared equally by a majority of Sri
Lankans who are so used to the double standards of politicians with
reference to the LTTE terrorism in Sri Lanka. Well said Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksha! Long Live!! |
