WESTERN MEDIA EXPOSES ITS “MEDIA DUPLICITY” BY SUPPORTING SRI LANKA’S FASCIST TERRORISTS.A.A.M.NIZAM MATARA.Media Freedom, Ethics of Journalism, Unbiased Reporting has become almost equivalent to western duplicity related to terrorism and terrorists. Recent news coverage on Sri Lanka in the aftermath of freeing the East from terrorists was a glaring illustration of this media duplicity. While the local reactionary media in shameless servitude to the treacherous political discards belittled a great historical achievement made by our gallant forces, several international media outlets that justify and laud all and every actions related to terrorism being taken by Bush, Blair, Brown, Kazrai, Abbas, Musharraf and the like failed to give even the due coverage to this event despite it related to inflicting a thundering blow to terrorism. The same media poodles, however, despite rightfully condemning the threat made to Sri Lanka by the Terrorist Tamilselvan gave it wide publicity, and the shameless Bias Broadcasting Corporation took the lead in this publicity campaign. Can spokesmen of Al Qaida, Taleban or similar outfit get the same publicity through these media poodles by threatening western or any other nation?
The Western News Agencies such as Assoiated Press, Reuters etc., which claim that they are committed to uphold media freedom and at the same time to expose the horrendous nature of terrorism and help eliminate this menace from the world have proven their duplicity when it comes to Sri Lanka since it does not relate to what they call Islamist terrorism and in their realm they mistakenly believe that the tiger terrorists, who in fact are hardcore fascists, are led by a group of Christians, perhaps because of the extensive support being extended to these terrorists by the Christian clergy, especially by Bishop of Jaffna Rev. Dr. Thomas Savundaranayagam, Bishop of Mannar, Dr. Rev. Rayappu Joseph, and others. However, the days would not be that far for these priests to realize the fascist nature of these terrorists and that the fate befallen for Amirthalingam and his ilk are waiting to befall them.
Reuters News Agency and the Associated Press in reports datelined from Kilinochchi have given wide publicity the hollow threat made by the terrorist Tamilselvan that their future targets will be major military and economic structures of Sri Lanka. The reports quoting the terrorist spokesman state that oil installations will be one of such targets, and under this President peace is not possible. The same news agencies which periodically quoting someone, any Tom, Dick or Harry demand that Sri Lanka should cease military activities and start negotiations have deliberately played down “total rejection of peace” by the terrorist spokesman. Further, they fail to condemn at least Tamilselvan’s threat to deploy suicide bombers against the Sri Lankan targets although they continuously and vehemently condemn the same threat if it was made by Iraqis, Afghans, Palestinians, or anyone else as inhuman, barbaric and uncivilised.
The Bias Broadcasting Corporation went beyond all limits to hide the defeat of the terrorists in the East by observing complete silence about it and gave extensive publicity to terrorist Tamilselvan’s hollow threat. Both days on 13th July and 14th (Friday and Saturday) in the hourly news bulletins it gave wide publicity to the terrorist threat with video clips of their interview with this terrorist spokesman and also showing video clips about tiger terrorists holding military drills to give the bogus impression about the strength of the terrorists, and also with a view to inculcate a false sense that it is a regular armed force. On the 14th Saturday this vicious media outfit in their hourly bulletins showed Kilinochchi referring it to as “Rebel Capital”, violating all ethics of journalism by attributing to a non-existing Capital to hide out of terrorists and showed traffic in Kilinochchi being controlled by “uniformed LTTE men”.
On Friday 13th, they even gave coverage to the terrorist threat in the “Asian Economic Bulletin” broadcast from Singapore having an interview with Minister Sarath Amunugama. It is remarkable that Mr. Amunugama beating BBC’s hidden motives to give a negative effect on Sri Lanka, used the occasion to devalue the terrorist threat announcing that it is confined only to a small area of North now and explained that on the contrary Sri Lanka with its free trade agreements with India and Pakistan offers a huge market opportunity for investors in Sri Lanka. The vicious BBC’s undue coverage to the terrorist threat is highly deplorable.
This is not the first time that the terrorist barber Tamilselvan has thrown threats against Sri Lanka and its gallant security forces. On 22nd June last year in an interview with the Associated Press this terrorist spokesman, said that unless the government will not cease the military operations immediately they will make use of all the weapons in thier arsenal-not only weapons, but manpower, including the suicide bombers. He said they will use all their resources to defeat Sri Lanka. This announcement was sweet music to the vicious reactionary and treacherous gangs and taking a clue from this hollow threat they made all sorts of demands to the government to stop the military operations and commence negotiations.
Unrelented by these threats and demands, the government continued with its military operations as per the aspiration of the masses. After the government launched the “East Liberation” operation, liberated Mawil Aru, and captured Sampur Tamilselvan made another strong threat saying "The international community should not behave any differently when, as a consequence of government action on Tamil people, Sinhala people face the same fate in the future." This message demanding immediate vacation of areas captured in Sampur was delivered through the Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brattskar, after a meeting with him in Kilinochhchi.
Once again, in a recent interview with the Associated Press correspondent Mathew Rosenberg (21.04.-8) this terrorist said that they have everything from suicide bombs to air raid and if the government will not cease their military operations, they would “unleash their full capacity” He threatened that Colombo and its chauvinistic forces will realize what the full capacity of the LTTE is, and warned that the impact would be very serious
The threat although the western media and the treacherous elements
attempted to exaggerate is a clear demonstration of the desperate status
the fascist terrorists have been pushed into by the great achievement
of liberating the East by our gallant soldiers. It is the exposition
of the hysterical mindset of the terrorists. The government and the
security establishment should not get allayed by these hollow threats
and make strong and firm efforts to diminish and eliminate the terrorist
military strength by successfully targeting the sea tiger bases, arms
storages and training facilities. Priority should be given to completely
eliminate the sea tiger wing and its facilities. It is the time for
all patriotic masses to extend their fullest cooperation to the security
forces and to be vigilant about terrorist infiltrations with the help
of treacherous elements. |
