De-Merger of North East is a great victory for all Sri Lankans- We thank the President. Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse, and the High Court of Justice of Sri Lanka.By Charles PereraThe President Mahinda Rajapkse should be felicitated for abiding by the decision of the High Court of Justice of Sri Lanka and de-merging North and East. It was an unpardonable mistake of R.Premadasa, terrorist appeasing Ranil Wickramasinghe and Chandrika Kumaratungathe to have allowed to continue a wrong against the Nation, committed by JR Jayawardhan by agreeing to merge North East to satisfy India for employing the Indian Peace Keeping Force, to fight terrorism in Sri Lanka. All true Sri Lankans could be happy that there is now an equitable distribution of the land mass and population, among the nine Provinces of Sri Lanka. It is a justifiable move to put the Provinces back within their original borders which makes Administration of the provinces more convenient. It was this merger that made Prabhakaran draw the Eelam Map extending from Puttalam, almost up to Hambantota . Looking at this disproportionate landmass those politicians with ulterior motives claiming to be against LTTE terrorists yet yearned for a merged North East. It would have been easy for them to break away a merged region in a political show down with a Central Government of Sri Lanka. A Federal System with a merged North East would have greatly facilitated their secret desire for a future political break away of North East Federal State from the Central Federal Government of Sri Lanka to form their own Eelam State. That would have been ideal for those hypocrites, as it would not have been a Fascist Tamil Eelam under Prbhakaran, but a break away Eelam through political agitation. That dream of the hypocrites calling for a Federal Constitution following the Indian Model for a Unitary Sri Lanka, with a merged North East, has been thwarted by the sensible decision of the President Mahinda Rahjapakse to carry out the order of the High Court of Justice of Sri Lanka to de-merge the North and East. Administration of the two regions should be carried out normally without ultra Sinhala or Tamil cultural notions. The conduct of the administration of these two provinces should not be any different from other Provincial Councils. The people should be able to correspond in any language they wish, and forms and instructions should be made available in all three language making the people of these regions feel free in their provinces without having the feeling that any thing is imposed upon them. The contact with the people should be human and direct, reducing red tape and bureaucracy to the minimum. The people should also be able to get things done quickly in a short time possible without having to visit the Government Offices several times. Such administration would be a model to other Provincial Offices which have become notorious for red tape, bureaucracy and lack of closer human relationship. There should not be further political interference in the North or
East for referendums. The situation now is what it was before the
enormous mistake committed by JR Jayawardene in 1987. The regions
should be developed , while the Military inflicts continuous damage
to the terrorist controlled areas until the terrorist surrender or
the region is completely rid of them. |
