DUSSEELA SAMAGAMA CONCEPT REVIVES KOTELAWELA’S TAARA YUGAYA

A.A.M.NIZAM MATARA.

. This shows that the Junk-UNP which has become the Sri Lankan arm of the International Democratic Union is committed to uphold, propagate and strengthen Christian Democratic ideals of the West. This master traitor even before the heat of his reprehensible denouncing of achievements made by our gallant soldiers in capturing the East cooled down, has made this scathing attack on the Buddhist Monks condemning them as an Iniquitous Company (Dussheela Samagama).

The reason he chose to direct his salvo particularly against Ven. Ellawela Medananda Thero of what he terms as someone belonging to the Dushsheela Samajaya is very obvious. The Scholar Monk, who is an authority on archaeology and have carried out extensive research on the Sri Lankan history based on the archaeological findings in the East deplored Mr. Wickremasinghe’s statement of demeaning the feat of the security forces and describing Toppigala as an insignificant, rubbish jungle. The Ven. Thero addressing newsmen on this issue highlighting the archeological importance of the area even pointed out that Toppigala was the birth place of Suranimala, one of the 10 Generals of King Dutu Gemunu. Apparently, the Ven. Thero completely exposed the nudity of Mr. Wickremasinghe’s ignorance over the strategic and historical importance of the area and also about the treachery of deliberately declining to honour the nation’s heroes at the most wanted time.

How can he advocate that the Minister Champaka Ranawake should undergo at least 1 ?½ years orientation in a Catholic Church to know about righteousness? Does he mean that only the Catholic Church could teach righteousness to anyone? Righteousness is something that is not the exclusive right or possession of one religion, a Sect, or confined to one philosophy. This, itself shows that this jester lives in a shell surrounded by his wine drinking, night club cultured tie-coat Tuppahi clan, totally ignorant of the virtues of Buddhist philosophy or other religions and believes that only Catholic Church can guide someone in the righteous path.

Is it a crime to use a car by a priest? Is there any rule in any religion that the priests should only walk and should not use any mode of transport? Cars are being used by priests of all religions throughout the country. Has he himself or other parliamentarians of his Junk-UNP not taken the car permits they become eligible periodically? Haven’t they sold the cars they possessed when they become eligible for a new permit? Can Mr. Wickremasinghe tell the masses how many car permits he has obtained, since he entered Parliament in 1977 and what he has done for all those vehicles? What about the UNP partner JHU member, Ven. Uduwe Dammaloka, who is well known as a car dealer and who was once castigated as Mr. Uduwe Dammaloka by his new found ally Mangala Samaraweera? I was told by friends that some of the Ven. Monks have sold their car permits and used that money to provide three wheelers to several deserving persons. Can Ranil explain to the masses which Moral Code (Seelaya) of Buddhism the Ven. Monks violated to become Dusseela Samagama by travelling in a car or by obtaining a car permit that is legitimately due for them and not taken by force or illegally?

It was a well known fact that before the last general election, the UNP bigwigs including some non-Buddhists UNPers arduously worked assisting in the formation of the JHU and making Groups of monks to contest in all districts as they aimed to split the Buddhist votes and thereby help the UNP to have an edge over the Alliance candidates. Mr. Wickremasinghe in his diatribe says that people went in Benz Cars, and BMWs and voted for these candidates believing that they would make a change, but people of the village didn’t vote for them.

Something well said and absolute truth. JHU members were elected from the Urbanite Districts and people need not tell who use their cars even to go to the polling booths even a few steps distances from their residences. Further Benz Cars and BMWs are symbols of their clan and not common man’s vehicle. At that time Ranil and his cohorts worshipped the JHU members because they shamelessly attempted to use them as a powerful tool to split Alliance votes espousing what they now criticize as “saffron clad extremism”? an euphemism now being liberally used by the reactionary media to criticize Buddhists. They even overplayed their clandestine fractionalizing of Sinhala voters without realizing that it would boomerang on them and they would get pushed to the third place in certain electorates.

Then when the voting for the post of Speaker was scheduled, once again the JHU parliamentarians were applauded as great heroes, saviors of democracy as the JHU votes were vital for getting their nominee elected as the Speaker. The texts printed in the Hansard would reveal to what extent non-Buddhist UNP parliamentarians such as Ravi Karunanayake, Jayalath Jayawardene, John Ameratunge, Joseph Michael Perera and many others together with Ranil Wickremasinghe accused the Alliance members of kidnapping JHU parliamentarians and charged them for disrespecting the dignity of Buddhist Monks and claimed Alliance members assaulted JHU months in the well of the Parliament causing severe bodily injuries.

Contrary to the expectation of the UNP, the Ven. Monks of the JHU (except Mangala Samaraweera’s Mister. Uduwe Dammaloka Thero) due to their strong patriotism valued the country more than the petty politics and supported Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse in the presidential election as they rightly realized that election was a decisive election to safeguard the sovereignty of the nation, defeat the terrorist menace, protect the national heritage and defeat foreign subversions. Thus they became “saffron brigade”? or “saffron cladded extremists in the reactionary jargon.
