Conspiracies, mudslinging and services to Prabahakaran

S. Akurugoda

As per media reports, addressing the heads of local government institutions, President Rajapakse has stated that it was Prabhakaran who was behind all conspiracies against him and the government to stop aid to Sri Lanka and to sabotage development. The President has made some reference to the mudslinging campaign going against him and the government as well.

We, as ordinary citizens of this country, are aware that the conspiracies and mud slinging are very common in Sri Lankan politics even prior to the emergence of the terrorist leader Prabahakaran. Only difference is that Prabhakaran being a seasoned, crafty and ruthless terrorist leader knows very well to manipulate political situations in the South. The terrorist leader knows how to get the maximum use of the power hungry politicians and traitors who do any thing for money and how to exploit the foreign countries and institutions who are interested in the internal affairs of the country for their own economic, religious or political advantages.

The tragi-comedy now being staged by the mudslinging champion Mangala Samaraweera with the support of Siripathy Sooriaarchchi is a typical example of the day. After being sacked from their ministerial positions, the duo now go around talking about a secret pact with LTTE, complaining to the human rights commissions and to the bribery commissions, quite apparently, for the purpose of mudslinging on the President and the Defence Secretary.

One wonders as to how the loss of privileges due to loss of employment could be challenged as loss of human rights. If Mangala and Siripathy are entitled for the privileges that they enjoyed before their dismissal, then on the same token, all service personal should be entitled for their privileges they enjoyed prior to retirement or loss of job. This is not practicable and may not be considered as human rights within the frame work of any other known democracies (not even the five star democracies of the rich west) in the world. However the government may consider providing security to any citizen, at its will and on merit basis, depending upon the seriousness of the situation and availability of such facilities.

One may not take their visit to Bribery Commission as serious, since this is not the first time that Mangala and other politicians have gone to Bribery Commission with complains against their rivals whenever they are in a crisis situation. Visits of politicians of this nature with complains to Human Rights and Bribery Commissions will only weaken the seriousness of genuine complains of the public against violation of human rights and corruptions.

Ironically, even a 5th standard student (not only these duo), are aware that the number one and two targets of the LTTE as at today are the President and the Defence Secretary of the country at a time when the outfit is losing its grip completely from the East due to the success of the government's security forces. In fact, the Tigers have already attempted the life of the Defence Secretary once. Evidently, upon the outfit's failure to grab the life of the Secretary, the Prabhakaran has now turned into his other tactics of creating confusion, diverting directions, demoralising (if possible) by making use of his usual resources available in the south for his survival.

To this end, not only the said duo, but the 'TNA proxy UNP' and its failed leadership, 'Sinhala LTTE cadres' defended by 'Bahu', 'journalists turned terrorists' defended by FMM, Peace mafia, Human rights and Anti-War groups led by paid agents of foreign funded NGOs and INGOs are doing an enormous service to the terrorist leader at the moment.
